UTInput.ini is replaced

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Hi,

I've tried to add some custom weapon bindings in the UTInput.ini but every time I exit the game the file get's replaced with the previous version.

I read somewhere that these settings get to be loaded from the gamespy server. Well ... I cut down my internet connection and even so the file was replaced.

Did anyone have this problem ? Thanks.

Where are you storing the config files? In the My Games\UT3\ directory or in UT3's install directory? I had similar issues (not with input, but other config settings) when I kept .inis in the install directory instead of the My Games folder. It kept copying stuff to the My Games folder and screwing everything up, so I moved all the config files over to My Games from the install folder and that solved my problems.

Have you installed the latest patch?

I had this problem quite often prior to the last patch. The file would get corrupted. You can tell because it was the wrong size, too small, missing parts. Then, when the game starts up, you sometimes cannot log in or it replaces the corrupt file with a new default version and your keys are gone..

I keep backup copies of the ini files in a different directory.. Then if one of more get deleted and replaced with the default, just copy your back up over the default. That way your custom key bindings and pipes are safe. Same goes for the other settings in other ini files.

Fixed it ... here are the steps:

- edited the DefaultUTInput.ini from the UT3/UTGame/Config folder;
- deleted the UTInput.ini from the MyGames/UT3/UTGame/Config folder;
- started the game and defaulted the keys from the settings.

That's not a fix; it's a workaround. Editing defaults is a REALLY bad idea if something ever goes wrong. For the input file, it's probably not a big deal, but I seriously would not do that for any other default files. If you screw those up and can't restore from a backup (since the backup is what you tampered with), you'd have to reinstall the game.

Actually, I was pretty sure the game can regenerate those.

I know my way in those files, so there was no problem modifying them. Everything works like I wanted to.
