UT99 maps on UT2004

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Is there a utility or whatever that will convert UT99 maps to UT2004 (or to UT2003, since UT2004 loads UT2003 maps), please?

There are some great maps that I love playing in UT99, that I'd love to play in UT2004, custom maps I mean, not the ones from UT99 that have already been converted by Epic or by fans to UT2004. And it seems at least plausible that someone might have attempted to write a program that will make UT99 maps upwardly compatible.

Thanks for any answers.

In theory it should be possible to convert BSP geometry, lights and most pathing. Pickups, decorations and specific zone features (water, lava, etc.) would be lost, though. Also, UT200x maps have a completely different scale, not to mention completely different movement requirements. Players are larger, move much faster and can perform jump move combinations that weren't possible in UT.
A straight conversion, even if proper scaling was applied and all the textures were ported, would most likely suck big time in the gameplay department. Also, UT200x no longer has the Ripper, which was an essential part of many UT maps.

Thanks for replying. Like you, I was unaware of a converter, but a poster named Jefe on another forum said:

"There is a converter in development, actually.

I've not tried it yet (I will when I get home), but hopefully it will do what I want.
