Hey Folks,

I was wondering if any of you have read up on this fall's new release of the game, and if so, if you think we got gypped? Apparently, the new game will have all the gameplay of the old one (UT2003), along with more gametypes (such as Assault) and loads of vehicles. It seems to me that UT2003 was just a public beta test for Epic to work out all the kinks and release the game that they really wanted to release in the first place. Oh, and they happened to make millions off the testing as well. Hmmm. :( :shake: :hmm:

Yea well, they needed to fund that spending some way I guess ? I agree with you...somewhat...but I dont think it was really ALL just a test. But atleast they are giving us Vehicles, cause I havent seen a mod that can do Vehicles proficiently yet...but that seems like the only plus side to me.

You should check out UnWheel. It is being developed by a totally independent MOD team that is making a racing game with the Unreal engine. It looks pretty darn slick. I just feel ripped off. All those peeps who bought UT2003 should be able to get UT2004 at a discount or just be able to DL the new stuff as a bonus pack.

I agree ICE. If they are using the same engine & just adding new maps, skins, and modes then make it available as a Bonus Pack. WTF they are in it to make money and unlike the Makers of "Duke" The atleast delivered a awesome playable game. How many of you was Duke Fanatics, and is waiting & waiting for the new Duke. They are merely 3-4 years behind schedule. Hell with this bring on DoomIII & Quake 4.

I've been keeping up with it, and I've dropped a few rants on a few message boards... but it seems to me that Epic has a large group of brown-nosers behind this "new release".
Just to put the story straight:
UT2004 is:

UT2003 with added models, maps, vehicles and gametypes.

Coming out around christmas (yup... they're already pushing back the release date... does "2 weeks" resonate in your heads as well?).

Going to cost the same amount of money as UT2003 did, because it includes UT2003.

UT2003 owners will be given a "discount" in the form of a mail in rebate, which will require you to cut something off of your manual from UT2003.

Will include everything that we have already gotten from UT2003 (including bonus packs and patches).

The only thing I'm not sure of, is whether UT2004 will be backwards compatible with 2003... some say yes, others say no... the main thing is;
UT2003 owners (more than likely) will not be able to join 2004 servers, but 2004 owners will be able to join 2003 servers.

If that doesn't sound like highway robbery to you, then you might want to remove your nose from Epic/Atari's butt.

This is only my opinion, however, and should be viewed only as such.

Damn, this really blows. I am not really into vehicle type battles either be it cars or planes. Guess we can only wait and see what the deal is. I mean if you play LGI will the vehicles be able to shoot??

This is some serious crap...all the ladders are probably going to change over to 2K4 and then everythings gotta change again. Gonna have to get use to a little different gameplay...hopefully it wont be as harsh as the change from UT99 to 2K3.

Actually, I don't think there will necessarily be that much of a change. Look at all the classic UT ladders IGLNET still has. There are twice as many UT ladders as there are UT2003. In addition, if UT2004 bumps up the hardware requirements even further, then it is certainly going to have to take a back seat to the current games for at least half a year. I think its a bad idea (from a finanical standpoint) to develop a "new" game every year. Two years would be more like it. Let the game build up, hit its peak, then start to decline, so that when you put out your new game, everyone goes out and buys it; and since you had the extra time to develop it, it should be more polished. All this is working against the 2k4 title, so it would have to be totally kick-ass game to be worth even thinking about buying it. (Make it only $5-$10 after the rebate, and backwards compatable with 2k3, and I'll think about it, though.)

From everything I've read thus far, after the rebate, it will cost previous users around $25-30.
If ya think about that, it's like saying that UT2003 was only worth $20 to begin with. :con:
