UT2004 Server Help

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

If you are behind a router it isn't sufficient to just open the necessary ports. You also have to forward them to the correct IP inside your LAN. Have a look at this post. It also contains a list of the ports, just in case you missed one.

Good luck!

Also, don't forget if you are running Windows XP that the OS has it's own firewall built in. You'll need to open ports there as well.

Erm if you disabled your router no-one would be able to see the server at all :p. You need to forward ports 7777, 7778 and 7787 at least.

Some have an option to respond to pings, but I haven't seen one that forwards pings. Enabling it on the router should be good enough, seeing as though the added latency on a LAN is minimal.

Well like i said, the server shows up on the UT2004 Server List, but ping is shown as N/A, and when I click dedicated, the black screen w/ my IP address and other stuff like (F10) to cancel, shows up but nothing else happens, I even wait for 5 mins, still nothing happens.

I already have forward the ports, plus I heard XP Firewall isnt the best to start a gaming server. but ya, i forward the ports before and had it setup already, but I still get the N/A Ping. Ok this is what happanes:

I forward the ports, open up Unreal Tournament 2004, Host Game, Setup the Server Settings, Click Dedicated, the game closes but this UnrealServer Console opens up showing Init, Log, ScriptLog, Warning, Progress, etc. and when I open up the game again, I Join Game, go to the Server Browser, I find my server but on the right side where the ping is, it says N/A. But I join the server, and get this black screen w/ white lettering saying "Connecting (F10 Cancels): ut2004://xx.xx.xxx.xx/Index.ut2"

In your router, what IP did you forward the ports to? The IP you forward to in your router should be you INTERNAL IP, not your internet IP. It most likely will start with 192.168.1.x

The IP that you forward to is the internal IP of the machine on your LAN that is actually running the UT2004 server.

I think I know exactly what the problem is.

See if others can connect to your server. With some routers (such as my old router), I would not be able to connect to local things using the external IP address. Others can probably connect with your external IP address, but you would not be able to connect with that address (but it would still work if you connected using the address 127.0.0.1).
