GameStory.net has some new fan fiction up about UT2003. Here's a little bit of the story
He didn’t have a match until late that day, a Deathmatch with three others in Curse on the eternal-dusk surface of Purgatory. With garish skulls and spikes and pillars made of sore, rotting flesh torn straight from dying bodies on the arena floor after each match. Just stapled together like some perverted quilt. The fans loved it, it was extreme, something the “boring old Tournaments would have never dared to do.” There were times he wanted to bring a few guns into the runway, just gun them all down right then and there. Show them what the Tournament really was.
It looks quite lengthy, but you can read it here

People have been writing about the MP games for aaages.
The universe lends itself to adding a LOT of colour, depth and inventing your OWN worlds that others can still easily relate to.

There are so many good books in the world, and someone thinks I'm going to spend my time reading badly written drivel about UT2003

Well, it's like level editing. There's good stuff out there that we all enjoy, and then there's stuff that people do when they are learning the craft.

And there's an audience for both.

Who knows? Maybe someday that new author will write the next great science fiction book. There have been quite a few level designers release steaming piles of poo, only to go on and knock us all out with their craftsmanship.
