i made a post several months ago concerning this mod, i have revitaled interest in making it, and more specific ideas about whats to be in it. please, anybody that likes to code and is looking for a project to dabble in, consider this one. its intent is to provide the ut1 community with a very resourceful mod that they can use for their enjoyment and convenience.

all of these would be, ideally, tied together into a mod, with a convenient menu system for server admins and players alike. the list may seem large, but keep in mind that the largest section by far, the "pre-coded and changes" section, is already coded, minus some minor tweaks to some.

if you are able to help, or think you might be able to, please make a post saying so. any ideas or suggestions about additions or changes to the mod, as well as ways to achieve whats to be in it, would also be appreciated.

im also in irc, irc.enterthegame.com #utcommunity and irc.progameplayer.com #mlut, with the nick Max]I[muS-X.

@@@@@@@@
MAIN CHANGES
@@@@@@@@

1.) New and Advanced Audio.

Specifics?: New audio to add to or replace existing sound effects in UT1, for its betterment.

Default?: Yes.

2.) Additional Achievements To Gain.

Specifics?:

Multis: Double Kill, Multi Kill, Ultra Kill, Monster Kill, Monster Kill Spree Count (announcer starts at 2, goes until spree ends).
Sprees: Killing Spree (5), Rampage (10), Dominating (15), Unstoppable (20), Godlike (25), Invincible (35), GOD (50).

Default?: Yes.

3.) Laser Guided Ripper

Specifics?: A red laser projects path of the ripper until the ripper disappears. The laser grows noticeably dimmer from wall to wall. If the laser is intersected by an enemy player, the laser turns from red to a shade of green. A player can turn their own laser's visibility on or off, set to default on. Players have an option to see another player's laser, which is set as default off.

Default?: To Be Determined.

4.) Undetectable Feign Death.

Specifics?: When a player feign's death, enemy players cannot see that player's name when their crosshair is over him. The ability to walk over these players is determined by the server admin, default for this is yet to be determined.
When feigning death, they also make the noise of a player dying, and fall in according fashion, with no kill message. Team mates of that player, however, can move their crosshair over the player and see his name.

Default?: To Be Determined.

not sure on this one,

5.) Advanced Skin Animation.

Specifics?: Similiar to the face on the DOOM HUD, a player's skin reacts to damage done to him, showing tattered skin, bloody face, etc. Smoothly if possible. Default skins only. 66 different faces, 17 different bodies, with 100 different transitions.

Default?: Yes.

6.) Score Creation.

Specifics?: A player accumulates points (does not affect outcome of any existing mod) that appear in the F1 screen, through the quality of his UT play. This will have to be done with a complicated number of If statements that add and multiply points based on the existing "score" of the player killed, model movement of both players, crosshair movement of both players, sequential kills (monsters, etc), number of kills before dying, weapon used, if the player is on land, in air, in water etc, and any other factor contributing to the overall "quality" of a kill.

Default?: Yes.

You will most likely not want to simply throw all those mods together, simply because they are coded as standalone mods without any other changes in mind.
Also you'll have much better chances learning UScript yourself since about every UnrealScript coder has plans of their own. (And TBH, what you're describing doesn't sound too interesting. Most servers do very well without all these things.)

thanks for the link, i knew it was yours, just didnt know where it could be downloaded. :)

and in regards to your opinion of my mutator, that attitude can be passed off to ANY mutator. hell, UT does fine without any of these mutators made. its the fact that it adds something to the game, not that its NEEDED. this is basically TTM enhanced to the nth power, and we all know how successful mods like TTM were in 2k3. i dont see how its not interesting, it would be very useful having all those options without having to have 50 mods running on the server.

so should we just not bother with making mutators because we dont necessarily need them?

as far as "just learning to uscript" goes, i wish it were that easy. it would take forever just to learn how to do something pretty basic, let alone to learn the basics, then learn the advanced, then code it all, all while keeping up with schoolwork. i just get overwhelmed when i look at a tutorial or try to start from scratch, so ive been looking for somebodys help.

btw, couldnt you just tweak and add each mutator to a .u file and make a menu system that encompasses all of the mods, or some shortcut like that?

No, but usually people download mods because there are major changes to the gameplay. Most of the things you suggest don't really change game play.

Oh boo hoo, don't tell us your lifes problems. We are all in the same boat, those that aren't working are in school. I myself am studying in University and a lot of other coders are doing jobs. We all learn UT for the fun of it and we just happen to get very good. I think the problem here lies in the fact that you either don't want to learn or you expect instantenous results.

Yes you can, that is the whole point of the mutator system. Most of that is already present in UT/UT2003 with the mutator menu.

oh wow, listen to this from a complete stranger. i wasnt crying to you, i was explaining why its a bit difficult for me to "learn it on my own". if learning it on my own was a very big issue for me, perhaps i would be crying. nice attempt at being witty though.

is this not the "mod recruitment" forum? i posted hoping i would get a taker, and thats all. i really dont need to hear how you dislike the mod or think its boring, because quite frankly im looking for help, not a-holes. in my opinion, you really dont know what the UT1 community wants, and big gameplay changes isnt one of them. this was made to be helpful, not to make a flashy CS UT port or what have you that nobody will play. it would probably be more likely to be deemed "important" by you though.

You're right, this is Mod Recruitiment, not Mod Ideas.
Did I understand you correctly? You want somebody to combine all these mutators and make them selectable? Sorry, but that's the opposite of the mutators concept. You can already select the mutators you want, both from the GUI and from webadmin.

i guess you DIDNT understand me right. i wanted to combine and TWEAK those mods (even if you were to just put them all into a .u file and make a menu system "connecting" them somehow), AND to add the 6 'big' changes and 12 or so little ones. if you cant do it, i guess this isnt the thread for you.

blame me for trying all you want, i tried to do just as this channels name states: RECRUIT for a MOD. it didnt warrant the negativity that i seem to see in you anytime i post or make a comment. if you want to be negative, at least try and be productive at the same time.

the problem with this, and i guess it applies to most modders, is that you apparently dont deem projects like this "important", while making big neato game overhauls is something you like. this may or may not have to do with the fact that a lot of you play fairly casually, and not as competitively as the upper tier of the community. thus, you make mods like NeoCairo (which was done very well btw, if i remember correctly) that nobody really ends up playing, and call it a success. the only big change mods that i can think of that did successfully, was Tactical Ops, Rocket Arena (which wasnt that big of a gameplay change), and Unreal4Ever (and that one is a tossup). so what you consider a great project, i consider a fruitless waste of time.

It just isn't neccesary. Thanks for the list though. What you should really do is just keep that list and everyone can download the muts and mods needed and be happy.

K?

did you read what i wrote? its as "necessary" as any other mod, actually more so. why? because its to enhance the experience of people that actually play, as opposed to the nonexistant crazy mod community.

hey, maybe we should make a middle ages mod where we fly on dragons and play as giants and plant beanstalks on huge maps, than we can have a newbie fun mod that looks cool. oh wait, nobody will play it. hm. oh well, still "necessary" .

let me see if i can get this through to you. an existing community wants little enhancements, not something that will change the game they already like to play. anyone know the TTM mod? thats right, none of its changes were huge, yet it was very successful and widely played. NeoCairo? ChaosUT? who? exactly. trust me, you know how to code, but i have a better idea of what people "want", as opposed to just whatever suits your fancy.

and one other thing, the whole concept of bringing the word necessary into play here is ridiculous. not one mod made for this game is necessary. video games arent necessary. fun isnt necessary. but we still want them.

UT pretty much already generates a list of mutators that you have installed for you. If you're trying to do what I think you are (correct me if I'm wrong), then it would be stupid to redo what they already have done. People don't get anywhere by having ideas. You're an "idea" man, which is just a prettied up way of saying you don't want to actually implement anything because you are lazy. I'll be happy to show you the basics of UScript and maybe walk you through some of the more advanced stuff, but you can't get mad at the experienced modders that try to tell you why you won't get a decent coder for your idea. Maybe if you did some concept work yourself or tried to learn about coding it would be different...

was never mad at them for not helping me, i defended the concept of the mod, and thats all. if they dont want to thats fine, but they came in here saying it wouldnt be "neccessary". first of all, a good amount of that list needs to be created, and the pre-built mods need to be tweaked so they actually work correctly. and who wants to install 20 different mods on a server, with lots of dls, when you can just put it into one convenient file?

as far as being taught uscript, i would appreciate it very much. starting from scratch for me is a bit complicated, and i just get overwhelmed when i look at a tutorial. i somewhat understand how they made it (ive had two classes in C++ so far), but have no idea how to do it myself. if you can help me that would be great.

How about contacting the original authors of the mods first and telling them about the specific problems of their mod(s)?

some of the "problems" are just changes that i think would make it better, and the author may not agree enough to want to do the work to "fix" something that in his mind, isnt broken.

others actually DONT work, at least online, and some are just buggy, but a good deal were made a long time ago. if i COULD even contact the original authors, im sure theyve put this mod in the past and are working on something else right now.

Sounds to me to be the most necessary mod in all of ut,considering 98% of that stuff was used in ut2k4 which went gold the day it came out.You guys need to start thinking with your heads instead of your ashes this mod would be a must have for every ut99 server.Hey guy why don't you email me ninjaguy57@hotmail.com i know this was posted awhile ago but lets get work on it?i have some people that can help.
