cannonfotter i have a 450 PIII with 320MB PC100 SDRAM and V770 TNT2 Ultra on NT 4.0 sp6. i had the same problem in NT 4.0 when i had 192MB of ram.
The slowdown comes from using your paging file or "virtual memory" and unless your running Utlra 2 SCSI I would keep unreal out of there if at all possible. NT requires a lot more Physical memroy than 95,98,98SE. The easiest way is, if youve got the cash grab another 64MB of ram, in NT I have noticed on some of the larger maps it will suck up anywhere from 130-210MB!!! It will make a world of difference.
If not, take a look at the services you are running and see if you can live without a few while you are playing. Also, close any browsers or email clients you may have open. Open your task manager and go under performance, if youve got at least 170MB Physical Memroy available you should be fine in most levels. Even with 320MB mine still hits the page file every now and then in Gothic.
Oh, and ignore Fragmiester he is probably intimidated by NT...not being a plug and play OS and all. The truth is, other than NT needing a **** load of memory it is a superior OS in the graphics and networking department. And the internet is after all a BIG *** network.
Hope this helps.
