UT Jailbreak or UT2k3 Jailbreak

Whilst I was reading the latest news article about tweaking the UTk3 version of Jailbreak, I wondered how this would affect the mothership server, the Lockdown and Parole.

Is it going to be a case of switching to the new version of Jailbreak as soon as it is released ? Or will there be a server for each version with the original UT being eventually phased out?

The reason I ask is not everyone may have a PC/Mac that can run UTk3. At the moment I am using my old 333 whilst I get my main machine sorted - no way can I run UTk3 on a 333.

I am not looking for a definitive answer here and I am sure the development team have thought about this but I thought starting this thread would allow people to make their suggestions :)

I often thought about this...the mothership probably wont go anywhere or be unused so i dont think you should worry about that. Seems to me, a chunk of people in this community dont think too highly about UT2003, but what i wonder is when JB2k3 is up and running what day will be the "lockdown2k" would it be Sunday too?

So long as JB2k3 can deliver the same enjoyment i get out of JB at the moment and even go further than the current one in terms of greatness, I'd be happy to play 2k3.

I installed UT2k3 a few days on this machine and hosted a server for me and Zed to frag each other, was alot of fun, took a while to get used to the weapons (what, no sniper rifle!!!!).

I think splitting the parole (2k3) and lockdown (ut1) might be a fairly good idea, unless SM can run two servers.
It depends on whether JB2k3 is more popular than the current version.

And as for the news on the main site, widget sliders RULE!!

Its a tricky question to answer actually.

Some would argue that since UTJB came first, it should retain its regular meeting times and names, whereas others would argue that UT is so last millenium and that everyone should move on. Its going to take ages for UT to fade into darkness, especially with some people's opinion about UT2003, though with UT2004 coming in February, this could change.

A few suggestions I have:

1. If Sexmachine can run two servers, that would be fine, though obviously there would be lower numbers on each server at the regular meetings on Sunday and Wednesday. With names for them, simply call it the Jailbreak 2003 Mothership and keep the original Jailbreak Mothership - keep the authenticy and originality :).

2. If Sexmachine can only run one server, maybe the main Jailbreak meetings could alternate daily. I mean, if we all played UTJB on Sunday, the server would be set up for JB2003 on Monday, UTJB Tuesday, JB2003 Wednesday, UTJB Thursday.....JB2003 Sunday, and the cycle would keep on going. This way, there is an equal share of UTJB and JB2003. However, it probably isnt very simple or convenient to change a UTJB server to a JB2003 server every day .

Yeah Katana, that was fun! Same for when we played, Trueblood! :D

And yes, the sliders are much better!

PAY??? I never knew he had to pay to keep the Mothership running . Well, oh, erm, bleh! In that case, option 2 could be possible. I dont know what he'd need to do though to change it from a UTJB to JB2003 server though. It depends how awkward it is i suppose.

Maybe I can get the folks at inUnreal.de to host a Jailbreak 2003 server after it has been released. We already have three UT2003 servers there but they're not as populated as we want, so any change to the better would be welcome.

Well this is all guess work, don't take any of it of anything near fact. The JB team have probably been "testing" their work on the net, so they've probably had a server, and maybe it has been dedicatied so there may all ready be server when JB 2003 is released (lets just hope).

My answer to the question on the news page mix them (if possable), slider widgets are nice to get near where you want but + and - buttons are better for fine tunning.
