Jerdaygo and I have been fooling around with some code for quite some time now just for fun, we never thought we would get this to work but here it is, a video of a horribly unstable and buggy version of UnWheel running in real time on the Sony PSP! The sound is buggy, the multiplayer doesn't work, and most of the maps are too big to fit in the PSP's memory, but it works!

It's a rather promising turn of events, and with enough development time we could have a "Lite" version of UnWheel released for the PSP. It might delay the release of the PC version, but I think it would be worth it, look for a dual release of UnWheel PSP and UnWheel PC soon ;)

Here are two links to the video...

There is actually a rather large PSP homebrew scene that would love to see us develop this further and release it, and Jerdaygo and I are huge PSP fans so we are having alot of fun working on it.

Right behind you.
Arewe legally allowed to do this?

Only I remember the existence of a contract a while back that we signed. you know, the ECE contract?

Hmm, we hadn't really thought about that. What did the contract say exactly? I figured it would be perfectly legal since we'd be giving it away for free.

I have a copy of the contract, I will have to dig it out and read it.

I just had a quick look through the contract and I didn't see anything that would keep us from releasing this, and even if there is, the worst that could happen is they will send us a cease and desist order and then we'll have to take it down. I really don't think we'll have any problems though.

Im willing to bet Epic has better things to do than go after a mod that helps promote thier engine :p

How is this one possible if it's just a mod? I am assuming that you will have to install UT onto the PSP first so that you can run the mod. I'd like to have more info. The idea of bringing anything Unreal related to a portable machine strikes my fancy. :) Congratulations on your accomplishment. May your success continue.

Installing UT onto the PSP just isn't feasible, if you check out the size of your UT2004 folder on your harddrive you will see that it's probably over 4 gig in size, and the latest PC UnWheel beta takes up over a gig of space as well. So that's why I say we'll have to make a "Lite" version of UnWheel for the PSP, we will have to remove a ton of stuff, only the things that are absolutly necessary will stay, we'll end up removing so much stuff that there will be almost nothing left of UT, so the PSP version will be more like a stand-alone game then a mod.

but technically you're releasing a UE2.x game?

i'm not sure if that would be legal =\

sure you're not selling it but you could be infringing on copywrite...

I don't mean to put your hopes down...

I would love to play Unwheel on a PSP (if i had one) but you never know...

but it can't hurt to just ask Epic...

I'm sure they won't too much aslong as it doesn't go on shelves anywhere and you don't sell it ;)

Good work guys! Shame it might mean the delay of the next UnWheel as I was really looking forward to that.
The vid though... at one point the camera almost stays still for long enough and zooms in almost close enough for you too see whats going on. :B

I still can't figure out how you guys were able to make this mod work on a PSP. You'd still need a working copy of UT2004 in there, along with the mod. Anyways, it's an amazing feat.

My advice for future video releases: Pick one angle and hold the camera still. Do all this setup before press the record button. A tripod would really help here.

Well, I suppose this has gone on long enough, I almost hate to say this but, Happy April Fool's day everyone! :)

Yes the PSP version is an April Fool's day joke.

Thanks for the camera advice, but the shaky cam style was intentional, since it was just a video running on the PSP while Jerdaygo filmed me playing we wanted it to be hard to tell what was going on a little bit so that you couldn't tell that my hands didn't exactly match the on-screen action.

Before you send us any mail bombs just think of the good news, this means that the PC version isn't being delayed by the PSP version, since the PSP version doesn't exist.

probably the most believeable one out of all the ones i've seen today.

It's a shame though, because I thought that would be a really cool idea :D
