Unreal & mx300

Merry Christmas!, Unreal will not work with vortex2 card (mx300), unless disable sound on the command line (unreal.exe -nosound -nodsound). The game blanks the screen like it's going to start, but then goes back to the desktop. Yes, use 3d hardware is disabled, and have tried disabling directsound. No dice.
Specs: 2040 latest aureal drivers, Win95 OSR2, Guillemot MaxiGamer32, with latest drivers, Intel CC820 board with coppermine P3 600EB, and 128m. Runs great in D3d with sound disabled. I have heard there are bugs in the 2040 drivers, with some games..
