.UMX Song Files Playable?

I love the music in UT, the songs are in .umx format, Winamp and Sonique don't support that. Is there and player that will or a way to convert them? I would love to know.

Hi Akuma,

Modplug http://www.modplug.com will play the music directly off the Unreal CD.

I've found that Modplug won't play the music from the UT demo unless I do a few other steps first: (I think the file format for the UT music has been fiddled with.)

If you have the full version of UT, start up UnrealEd (or, if you're playing the demo, copy UnrealEd to the demos System directory) and start it up. Select the music browser, and load in the first music file. If you can play it in the browser, then try exporting the music file to a seperate directory. It should work properly with Modplug, now. (I got all the UT demo music working properly this way).

Since UnrealEd exports .umx files as .s3m (Scream Tracker 3) files you could try to get a hold of that program and see if you can't export it to something else from there.

Hey thanks for the great info, got the ModPlug program and am listening to the tracks now! Now I need to find a way to burn it to a CD. Possibly there is a way I can convert the .umx files to a .mp3 format, then use EZ CD creator 4.0 to put the mp3s to CD.

Hi Akuma,
Yes, ModPlug has a 'Save Wave' option on the main panel. Once you've saved it as a wav file, there are several freeware encoders you can use to turn it into an MP3.

P.S. ModTracker from the same site will let you load in the scoring, extract the samples and change stuff around. (Not to mention being able to make your own music)

Just gotta say that being able to make my own remixes of the best Unreal T songs is SO cool. I have also started to convert the songs into wav now, this rocks.
