Yeah I just noticed you updated the map, lol. I will try the new version soon.

My own entry was very rushed towards the end (and I was the first one to submit actually, around 8:00 am the 16th, I worked on it during night and then released it morning, I felt really wasted and drunk like, the map could have turned worse given my condition lol), as you said you ahd problems with the stairs, they are very hard to climb, luckily there are elevators as alternate way.
EDIT: Oh and as for my idea with that, it was some joke that sprung up upon this, between me and Gizzy:

Wow, I just played it. You managed to pull out so much changes in a day since the first version, I didn't get second version is it close to third anyway? I noticed few bugs remain such as a hanging water plant surface in the air, you know those, whats it called, sircular things, but that's really not something everyone will notice.

But it's a great map overall, it kind of reminds me my favorite map in Firestorm when i betatested it back in 2006, you know the desert zigurrats stuff, iirc.

I wish I could rate the maps, as I resigned from being a judge (y'know, the real reason is that I'm pretty baffled for how the contest abruptly ended other than having problems due to the cyst).

This was the first entry I played because it was about "The Dig" game and it's the best one of the contest. I hope this one wins.

That sucks you resigned, but yeah the last contest was extended for another month or so, it ended in August in the end if you check the posts, so more time was in place.

As for this map, if he didn't update it I doubt it would win as it would be just purely about visuals, but with the changes he made it might as well win, becasue now it feels more complete. I'm really amazed how many changed he pulled out from the first version. I still have the first version archived and mirrored too, not the second since i don't have it, but then again the major changes were mainly in the second ver right?

I may decide to return being a judge.

EDIT: Okay returned. I guess I still love the game more than ever!

I'm really glad you guys enjoyed playing this, i personally expected alot of critique for rushing it out so badly :)

Leo, the second version is pretty much like the third one, except without gameplay stuff in it, so you're not missing out on anything. I quickly updated it to v3 after that since i still had some time before the new deadline.
Out of my head, significant stuff that v3 actually added were: the crew populating the ship, enemies and item placement, and the ending part with your ship.

And i just found out about the water lillies in the air, someone might just look down a bit while looking at a beautiful skyline, and notice that glaring error :haha:

I think the map doesn't do justice to The Dig like i intended it to be, but i'm glad people noticed and liked the similarities! Originally i had so much more planned, like the astronomy room, underwater area's, transport tunnels through the ocean, the puzzles, even an underground generator cave, i actually did some crude designs for these only to remove them afterwards, ah well deadlines :p

If anyone cares, here's the artwork for The Dig that i used mostly as a reference (other then playing the game over and over :p)

I never played dig, though the graphic style of the art work reminds me of Dune.

Hey, I inspected your map a tad (had to because I was adding fixes for your map to a coop mutator I was working on) and all the plants and stuff, stuff that I thought are sheets, they are dices, even the trees, they are dice with mesh set to the squid tentacle with different texture. Now that is creative. But I laughed my ass at the group called DICEABUSE.

Guess you wanted them to be staticmeshes originally I guess.

I think someone should convict you for a thousand and three hundred thirty seven years due to DICE ABUSE.

Anyway the things I fixed with mutator was the floating plant in the air and disabled playerstart0, it was in a wall near end of the map, wtf. It caused players sometimes disconnecting in coop when trying to join.

Hey there,
You're correct about dice, i absolutely use these things like crazy, i think i place a dozen of these in my maps.
In these days when people demand more visual spectacle, you quickly have to substitute complex (unstable) bsp with some kind of staticmesh object.
The dice actor is the perfectly suited candidate, they're flexible and i never had anything go wrong with them. on the other hand my previous attempts with books were NOT a good idea as anything book based was sent flying with the slightest momentum nearby, i found out when entire trees in my jungle started bouncing off walls.

Yeah but then again dice have no collision, perhaps it would be better to set some with collision instead. When working in UED 2 you can turn on radii view and have it more acurate that way than doing trial and error as in the old editor. Book is definitely a bad idea for substitute lol.

Dice are okay so long as you don't add any Krall with those pesky dice roll attributes. If I manipulate a mesh for decoration purposes I tend to use the "Knife" one as it has no pawn-related function and is easy to place. Though, I tend to really only use them for corpses and maybe something for a scripted scene. What you did in your contest map was interesting, Turboman.

Yeah, knifes or other static decorations are probably a much better choice, as it consumes alot less cpu/network bandwidth then dice does, but dots just told me that last week, and i've already used millions of dice in my life without knowing that

I have heard that there were Knives used for blood pools and stuff like that in Xidia too. Never checked that myself though.
