Sorry I haven't been around for L4D. I got more crapola dumped on me at work and I'm rushing to get up to speed on it. This Cisco stuff can be complicated when it's just thrown in your lap. BTW..you are taking over very soon. Here's your training manual. OMG.

So you might see me online but I'm using my PC to simulations on Cisco since it's more powerful than my laptop on graphics.

Sorry to hear that Mort. On the bright side, it's less likely they'll tell you that they don't need your services at all anytime soon, huh?

We'll be here when you have more time to join us. :)

Wha?
Steel has a point Morty; my sister has been working for a company for a little less than a year, but doing the work of two or three people, and working overtime without getting paid for it, only to get laid off today.
When she asked why, they said they couldn't afford to pay her anymore... but they kept less experienced people who were gettingpaid the same.

Sorry to hear that about your sister Lurk. The next six months are going to be the worst for employment, then hopefully things will get better. Just have to tighten our belts and wait it out, as the saying goes.

No job is safe in these stressful times. There might be some job security in the Federal Govt. (DoD) but that usually means there is something going on somewhere thats costing us American Lives (Military).. Hate to put it that way but some times the truth SUCKS!! Now that we own Govt. Motors maybe we will get good discounts on new vehicles!!! LOL

Looks like I'll be joining the unemployment line. My company is moving to Georgia and it doesn't look like I'll be going along. This might put the clamps on my gaming for the forseeable future.

Steel, any job opens where you are at? Any support job will do.

Morty, if you can get a TS Clearance (No Bad Stuff in Background) WPAFB is loaded with IT Support jobs. They have many DoD Contractors that work along with Air Force Civ. personnel.

Check this Site!!
http://www.usajobs.gov/

How long before they move??

Morty, my place pretty much hires only newbies so that they can pay them squat. I doubt you'd be able to get on at a pay rate that matches your skill and experience. However, they never stop hiring. No harm in trying.

I would definitely try to do what Taz suggested and try to get a job on the base, too. We know that's where most of the best jobs are.

Anyway, is NCR really moving out? That's been a Dayton company from the start. Costs aren't any cheaper in Georgia than here, are they? In fact, a division of my company based in Georgia is being moved to our secondary site in Houston. Maybe NCR is just looking to put some pressure on the local gov't to get additional incentives to stay?

Confirmed as of this morning that everyone in Dayton (Shock to everyone)will be losing their jobs with this move except for those in the data center which will be very frew of those people left over. So far I have not met with a career transition specialist to see about reworking my resume, cover letter, references, and salary requirement document. We will have to wait and see or if something comes along that I'll just dive into.

Trust me...I'm willing to take a cut to survive. I'll hit up the retirement money and pay off some big bills to get use to a lower income. The wife might have to return to work in some way.

Well, let me know if you want to apply here. It isn't hard, and those that get people in here to apply get recruitment bonuses. We've had a new person start almost every other week the last 5 or 6 weeks just in my department, so it is possible you could get on.

Wha?
Jeebus Morty, sorry to hear that, and I hope you get some good news soon.
It makes me very concerned to hear how tough it's getting for everyone right now.
I gotta wonder when/if they'll start cutting into Social Security Disability... I don't think I could get a job in my condition.
As it stands, we're going to be putting money back for the next several months to pay off bills and debts, and maybe then I'll be able to do some upgrading... this is our first real chance at getting any money at all put back, so we're going to take advantage of it while we have a chance.

Morty and Anyone else who is interested. I spoke to a few contractors today and they all agreed that this site is a pretty good Job Search Site. Lots of filters etc to narrow down searches.

Give it a shot....

How are things going, Morty? I haven't heard anything other than Ohio was going to fight Georgia from using government $$$ for incentives for NCR to move down there. You still looking for another job?

Yeah. I'm still looking. Nothing much has happend since the last time I annonced my job was going south. We know nothing. Until then I keep on working and getting the resume out there. I'm trying not to make mulitple versions of it since it could come back to haunt me. I have one that plays to my strengths and has been reviewed by serveral professional people. So I'm sending it out via my networks and to jobs that I'm qualified for. So far only one reject letter. Thanks for following up Steel! I hope all is well in ReyRey land.
