Torchlight - stealing life per hit?

Might be a slightly stupid question (since I'm not too much into RPG's) but apparently my character only steals life per every "normal" hit and all the powerful class skills don't steal anything at all.
Is that how it's supposed to be? :B

Yeah, I know. I've been using two swords and both of them steal life. But that's really just the fairly weak normal attack.
There are others like the Slash Attack or Doomquake that do a lot more damage but don't steal life at. Are these not supposed to steal life or am I missing something?

I played torchlight over xbox live and the same thing happens there.

Fairly certain that the special skills ignore effects like life steal in Torchlight.

Delacroix, how is this the wrong forum? It's a gaming forum, chances are at least several people have played Torchlight here and could have an answer.

There is a difference between 'chances' and 'guarantee'. On Runic Games forum you may contact even Runic employees directly to receive an answer to that question and no-one knows better than them. And this forum here is centered on Unreal Engine games and chance of meeting a specialist in other genre is not as high as in the 'homeworld' for the game in question.

It was more rhetorical than anything else, but sure. I naturally get the point of asking the developers themselves, but if this is a forum you frequent anyway, and we talk about loads of games, including a lot of games that have nothing to do with Unreal, why not ask?
Just sounds like you're berating him for what seems a fairly logical approach.

Far from it. But my personal scheme of thinking (which I recommended here) is to try hitting directly at the source. Sure, all such forums are gaming forums that have a section focused on 'all other games' where you may get help, so there IS a chance someone would reply HERE with the 100% correct answer. I myself however find it frustrating that no-one knows for sure, what the answer is to my question, so I started acting like this:
- when a problem is discovered, go to the game homepage and find if there's an official forum
- if there isn't, I'm googling for the most frequented unofficial forum
- I ask the question in the place most fitting for it.
I am yet to face a situation when the problem was left unresolved with this scheme being enforced with each problem I am unable to find a solution on my own. And because of the highest success rate, I recommend this to others.

I get that there is a system you can make to ensure legitimacy and efficiency in answering any questions like these, but that's not the point. You're telling him he's doing it wrong. He's not. He's just not doing it the exact way you'd approach it.

In that case I worded it wrongfully but I'll leave the original post as I wrote it to avoid the rest of this conversation to appear nonsensical. I apologize however for my poor choice of words.
