I haven't heard any tool stuff, before I listened to this album(well, probably I did, but I never paid attention to it)
imo it's ok, but somehow it left a vapid feeling in my mouth
it's like one big song with some interesting bits, but then it goes of into circling (very similiar) riffs
I think it would have been a better album, if they made the songs simpler and different

imo a band that can't manage to make a song last 5 minutes needs to improve.

Just some opinions ...

It's premature to judge seeing as how I've only listened to the whole thing a couple times, and sometimes it takes years to understand and appreciate an album, but it does seem like a compliation of weaker b-side cuts, polished though they may be. It's hard to detect much inspiration in what I feel are often redundant and meandering songs that stretch for the sake of stretching and which don't evince much maturation as musicians. I'm not really moved by any of the songs. :( Maynard's presence as a singer is significantly diminished on this one. Maybe if I could read the lyrics I'd gain a new appreciation for the "meanings" of the songs. Ten or twenty years from now, I don't think anyone will consider any of the songs from this album among their top ten or fifteen songs, but, like I said, it's premature to say much of anything based on nothing more than a cursory gleaning.

Edit: Whaddya know? I'm listening to it again and I'm starting to dig it. :p I guess set and setting matter a lot when you're experiencing something new and long-awaited like this for the first time. I have a feeling some of these songs will really come alive in concert. :)

Oh for f**k sakes.....I am sure most of us here will still be appreciating and understanding Maynard in the year 2010. Tool is just that f*cking deep.

All of the songs have something to do with Maynard's cat, so it's not that deep. ;)

Anyway, I've listened to the new album 1 time through so I'm not going to judge it at the moment, but I will say that it's not too shabby. I'm hearing a lot of re-used melodies from Lateralus and possibly other albums, as well as the new stuff, so it's pretty cool. :)

Sucks.

I like Vicarious, and let it be said that I'm probably the biggest Tool fan on the board, but this was just a huge let down.

There's one song on there that doesn't even sound like MJK singing and the lyrics suck anyway. I feel really let down, I waited five years for an album that just doesn't cut it. One of the things that makes Tool so great is the lyrics and MJK's voice, both of which this album is lacking, sorely.

I suggest that for anyone who feels like me, and isn't just pretending to like the album so you can fit in, check out the 10years album, I would say it's a much better Tool album than 10,000 days.

just my two cents.

^ I refuse to believe that you listened to it enough to give it a fair chance, as it's not even out in stores yet and just recently showed up on the internet.

If you are the biggest tool fan on the board then surely you will continue to listen and discover more about Maynard's cat from the hidden clues in each song.

Recently showed up? It's been out for over a week now. :)

PS: The retail rip is out, no more lame transcodes.
