I found a little prog that completely changed the immersion of driving simulators.
It's called FFShifter and the way it works is basically transforming a force feedback joystick into a manual shifter. So, when you put the gear in 1st, the proggie uses the force feedback to keep the stick to the up and left, and adds nice effects along the way. The program comes with its own editor so you can change the H-pattern anyway you want to (4 gears + revers, 6 gears + reverse..anything really). Works in practically any driving sim, I have used it with GT Legends myself. With proper pedals (including clutch) it would be just about as good as it gets. Cheap FFB joystick could easily be modified to a nice gear stick with H-pattern etc...
GT Legends rocks btw. Great looking, realistic handling...everything you would want from a serious sim. Today 2 new tracks popped up aswell so it seems this game can be modified as well
Damn, now I need to find a good set of pedals with clutch...ECCI pedals would be perfect...price a bit out of my range still
More info at http://forum.rscnet.org/ (look under Building your own Cockpit, Wheel etc).
