The first Section 8 was a game that flew under the radar and got little notice and attention. The second game, Section 8: Prejudice, is scheduled to come out sometime during Q1 2011 (And we'll be sure to have previews and reviews of it, of course). However, developer TimeGate Studios feels very confident about the success of the franchise - confident enough that they're already working on the third game in the series.

"We are committed to the franchise: we're already working on the next one, and we're going to make it better and better," CEO Adel Chaveleh told DS.

The exec went on to say that the firm has not yet decided whether the next game will be a first-person shooter like its predecessors. He is also uncertain whether it will follow in the footsteps of Prejudice as a digital exclusive.

"As for the next product and how it's evolving and [the] business model and everything else, we don't know whether it's going to be a true sequel again or whether we are going to go off and do a new type of game in the Section 8 universe," he said.

Picked the original up from the Steam holiday sale. Like the gameplay a lot, its good fun, but there's a serious lacking of players and servers. Hopefully Prejudice attracts more players. As for building a steady franchise out of it, I think it's a little early for that.

Sometimes I suspect there's some legal loopholes somewhere that allows devs to keep pumping out unsuccessful games while still maintaining a personal income. The guys who made Sacred 1 knew it wasn't a popular franchise, but they went ahead and made a sequel, went bankrupt during it's expansion, and are now making a third game under a new studio.

BU staff, wake up. You forgot posting that MNC will be in beta longer for some extra polish (link).

Also; they have a write up of their experience with porting their game to the PC so far over at Penny Arcade.
