TIME OUTS IN UT2003 MAPVOTE?

Anyone connecting to my server can play a map in progress but when the map changes they all will have to reconnect in order to be in the game. Here is a bit of code out of the dedicated server window.

I thought I increased the connection timeout to like 200.0 but its tiing out players. anyone know what to do? The mapvote mod is great. Just need to fix this so people don't have to reconnect each map change.

I increased the timeout in the ini file to 200. I am still having the problem whether it is my connecting fromt he lan ip or a person on the net connecting. connecting works if a map is in progress. Oncey ou go to map vote and then choose a map or mod etc.. you join themap but you are just in spec mode and not in any game. Myself via lan or net players it is the same. If you leave the server and reconnect to it then your in. This happens every map change. Very annoying. I look in the UT2003 server window and it shows me the message.

Now even though I incresed the timout. ALso I don't recall it taking 200 seconds for this person to try to join. Should I set it even higher? Here is the settings in my ini file.

I have read this all over the net but so far no solution to this wierd thing. You can play on the server but if you connected during a map change then your in the diconnected spec mode. Reconnect and you can play. Help :)

BTW I didn't say it but you mod is great. I did a Quake2 mod back in the old days that was a pretty good hit. But mapvote seems to be on most servers so I would say you did a great job with something a lot of servers could use. Now if I can just figure out this connection deal :)

What else are you running on your server ?
Mutators, Gametype ? UTSecure ? anything ?
Also, is it a Listening server or dedicated ?

You might try deleting your ini file then start UT and it will create you a fresh ini file.
See if you have the same problem.

Also, try increasing the ConnectionTimeout on the client/player side.

It is a strange thing. Sometimes there is no problem and other times there is. Most times it is just upon changing maps you are in spectator limbo. No mathc or people fighting going on. You have to reconnnect to then get into the game. I am running htis on Windows 2000 Server. I do know that UT original had some issues also with Win2k. SOme strange lag bug. Creeping ping or something. I wonder if it is some issue with that again. I have run Quake 1,2,3 servers on this machine with out any issue. Ran wonderful. BUt the original UT would have the creeping ping issue and now UT2003 has this strange for no reason timout on map change limbo issue. I increased the timeouts to 300 and it seems to do nothing. You join the server way way before that and your in the limbo world again. Reconnect time so you can play. I woder what it could be. I even reinstalled the latest patch to the game to see if that would help. Maybe I can post a console dump from the server window.

Okay Here is the console on starting up the server. Also today for the first time I notice the lines "Master server requests heartbeat 1 with code 460" repeating a bit in the server after it started up. This I didn't see until today. Also my server is the DMZ as I have a netgear router. There is no problem with running other game servers on this machine but is there anything that could pose a problem with a router? I also have heard that power schemes can have issues with ut? I have heard others having problems iwth ut2003 in dedicated mode but when in listen mode things are fine. here is the server startup:

Well here is an update. I have read tons of information on runing UT2003 servers. I read about all they had at UnrealAdmin.org. I even re instlaled the server from scratch. The problem is intermittent. It seems like you sometimes can join a game and play after a map change and other times you change maps and you are in that map but unable to to do anything as your in some wierd spectator dimension of your own. You can type - RECONNECT in the browser and most times that will put you in the game. The thing I want to know is WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN? I have run the entire quake series as servers and never had a problem. half-life as well all on the same server. UT 1 had some creeping ping issue with win2k servers I remember that. Is there a UT2003 issue with win2k server? I have also seen doozens of posts about this type of thing on different forums but yet to find anyone who has been able to say... CHeck this out and change this etc.. and it works. It jsut seems to be a timing issue. Once your in the game it runs very smooth. The problem is GETTING INTO THE GAME. Anyone out there know how to fix this or have ideas on how to fix htis thing?

Heres another funny thing I noticed. What I did was play on one maching and watch the console on the server. It appears that each time I join I TIME OUT at 10 seconds. ANd go to spec limbo land in nowwhere. Even though I have it set in the UT2003.ini to this

ConnectionTimeout=180

Then if I reconnect I join the game....................

Strange.


THis happens each time! What could be making me timout the first time?????

Heres another funny thing I noticed. What I did was play on one maching and watch the console on the server. It appears that each time I join I TIME OUT at 10 seconds. ANd go to spec limbo land in nowwhere. Even though I have it set in the UT2003.ini to this

ConnectionTimeout=180

Then if I reconnect I join the game....................

Strange.


THis happens each time! What could be making me timout the first time?????


CHECK OUT THE CONSOLE WHEN I DID THIS ONE TIME. I connect then timeout at 10 seconds. Then I reconnect via my client game and im in.....................

Again, did you try checking the Client Side UT2003.ini ConnectionTimeout setting ?

Also, Is DM-CBP-Ougaldwin a large map ?
Have you tried with a different map ? (Could be a problem with the map loading slowly on the client side).

The timout is set high in the client file to. Plus I can connect toother mapvote servers no problem from this machine. Internet games. But on my own server it jsut says I timeout in 10 seconds. If i reconnect im fine. i wonder why it is doing the intitial timeout? I have tired many different maps small and large. reconecting lets me join any map. On the net I can join. This server is timing me out or something. It is only when I connect to MY server. Others I have no issues with. figures ...
