Coop is my favorite mode in most games, and Unreal Gold has an awesome coop walkthru.

It takes some effort to get coop working properly, so here are some links to get you started.

Hyper.nl has the primary site for anything relating to Old Unreal stuff. From what I've seen so far, it is at least as in depth as Beyond Unreal.

A PC game is working properly has a properly working coop when:

#1: Connection over LAN is possible

#2: It is possible to walkthru the entire game without glitches

#3: Saving and loading is enabled

#4: Quicksaves and quickloads are possible

#5: Players keep their separate customizations, including names, skins, save locations, and weapons.

oh...well, one of the things I found working the RTNP coop is the RTNP coop coding was supposed to have the space marines chatting to each other while they battled you on the prometheus. Some small coding error stopped this, I think I posted a fix for that. You had to use the RTNP coop (Upak) coop, not the standard unreal coop to make that work as the chat was coded into the coop, not the characters.


All the RTNP maps were designed as single play map coop, as the server operator had to change maps manually, the map paks fix that replacing the original maps.

The RTNP2Unreal project fixes all of this plus. Actually its new fixed mappage so the original maps are kept intact.

It isnt released yet, tho I have 2 beta's released. None more will be released till latest work is done for a final evaluation

RTNP2U does not replace any files, all new. I do include RTNP files where missing if you only have Unreal and not Gold.
It won't matter if you do replace them or not, they would be the same.

There should be readmes that explain each set, you use which set to figger your use. This one just fixes 5 maps, the rest untouched. There were some technical glitches in some maps that caused them to crash the client, and Eldora well was fixed, it dropped you past the well in coop, well that no fun...
The single map cooping however was left intact. This was an early project.

If I recall right this is only the UPak.U file that fixes the marine chat.

a little fix. I think I included the fix in the original, I found a problem later and made the fix, but should you happen to DL it and apply the patch, you will just -RE-Fix it... :p, I re-upped the original all fixed fixed again.

You only need the map paks you need depending on what YOU want to do and trouble downloading. I recall some ISPs charge per download (maybe today thats different) so I try to keep the the required files selections minimal
to your needs. You might have this game and live in the Russian boonies...

I dont see a 2 3 4 5.

RTNP2Unreal only needs the standard Unreal coop and should work from versions 224 up to the new 227 patch.
It is actually being edited using v224 because later versions add some level protocoling which isn't compatible with 224, IE game map images as per like UT when you choose a map to play a map image comes up, this is in the level itself but that feature is not in 224. Later versions simply ignore the feature when its missing in 224. That would be a big mistake since all the standard Unreal maps are built on the original editor making all maps unplayable DUH!!

#6. The maps are listed in order of creation, with the last one listed being the latest beta.

#8. See also #13. The proper installation technique is simple. There's some stuff users should know first to make it easier.
a. Unreal maps have the extension ".unr"
b. From now on, let's assume everyone has a 10Gb/s broadband connection, and owns the entire Unreal Anthology. It's cheap, people (like $15 on eBay). Go get it if you only have the floppy version for Win95 or got it illegally.
c. Get the latest overall patch from Hyper.nl
d. You can find the maps folder in UnrealGold > Maps. The files setting loose in the Maps folder are the plain vanilla maps from the earliest days of the game, made before the game become more multiplayer based. The files in the UPak folder are from the expansion pack Return to Na Pali (RTNP).
e. UPak.u is the main engine file that makes up the game, I think. Mods will usually have a modified version of it. It is found in UnrealGold > System.

#10. Do some of the betas replace other ones (e.g. it isn't necessary to install Firefox 2 before Firefox 3, similarly, replacement isn't necessary if set x has 1,2,3, but set y is 1,2,3,4.)? In other words, does installation order matter?

#11. Order of installation for five zip folders.
a. UGoldCoopMapsFIXEDV1.zip contains custom maps for the early part of the game (I'll call them part I), with the only changes being tweaks to make it functional. UGoldBETACoopFixV1 contains a mod to UPak.u. It is to be used "in conjunction with the Map fixes.", aka UGoldCoopMapsFIXEDV1.zip

b. MegaUnrealCOOPPak.zip is an earlier version of MegaUnrealCoopPatchV1.zip. All you need from MegaUnrealCOOPPak.zip is EndRTNPCoop.ZIP - End.unr.

b. cont'd: Here's where you should put the files from MegaUnrealCOOPPak.zip. They are listed as ZIP folder - .unr file:
I EndRTNPCoop.ZIP - End.unr - drop in the Maps > UPak folder. This is the ending fix for RTNP.
II endgameUNREALCoop.zip - endgame.unr - drop in the Maps folder of Unreal Gold. This is the ending fix for the original Unreal.
III gatewaycoopUGOLD.zip - gatewaycoop.unr - Use ONLY for Unreal Gold. Drop in UnrealGold > Maps.

c. Now you're going to replace what you did in b. cont'd if you're following along incrementally (is this correct?). MegaUnrealCoopPatchV1.zip contains two files that replace what was in MegaUnrealCOOPPak.zip.
endgameUnreal.zip - endgame.unr - drop in UnrealGold > Maps.
GatewayCoopUnreal.zip - GatewayCoop.unr - drop in UnrealGold > Maps > UPak. It replaces gatewaycoop.unr.

d. ugoldrtnpcoopbeta2.zip is the latest one, but not the only one you need.
It contains 17 maps. Drop them in UnrealGold > Maps > UPak. Do you delete the original ones to get them to work?

#12. Always refer to the mods page in Beyond Unreal for Unreal's underpinnings.

#13. a. How should the files from MegaUnrealCOOPPak.zip replace the original ones? E.g. does gatewaycoop.unr replace Gateway.unr, End.unr replace the original End.unr (for RTNP), and endgame.unr replace Endgame.unr (for Unreal)?
b. Do you need to delete the original files to get it to work, or can you leave the original ones where they are?

overwrite the original files. But you did double-install UGold so you have another copy installed didnt you if you wanted to keep original files intact.

The early fix only did a few maps, I reccomend that if you want to do a minimal tweak. The later fix fixes more.

The endgame and gateway maps allow non-attended server running, original Unreal you had to reset the server to restart the coop.
The different versions are because of differences between all the game versions, IE Unreal, no RTNP, RTNP, no Unreal! Ugold, you have both so you can coop both by choosing the teleporters even go in the game midway somewhere.
Running up to the teleporter I think gives clues where you end at and I have unreal creatures above each teleportor as hints where you may be going.

Its really made it confusing with all the game versions but I try to solve it all.

Just be sure if running a server you have link references where to nab the map packages you run.

BTW UPak.u is the RTNP coding which includes the RTNP coop coding separate from the original Unreali.u
