OK, I can create skyboxes with it. But what exactly is it for / whate else can be done with it, or what can you compare it to? Is it a good tool, or...?

Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

skyboxes is one use for it... how about cool desktops, or check out the contests for terragen that are all over the place.
i had the shareware version for a while but i got way sick of waitong for those damn renderings(they can take hours!! worse than studiomax redertimes... ) i made some fun stuff with it...
however... getting a skybox that will look smooth 360 degrees is another thing altogether.. use those skys for wonderfull secens outside of a window where you cant really see all the way around. (unless your damn good with that app)

For terrain, I use TerraEdit, which is a simple effective program. You can get it off fileplanet, but I dont have an exact link.
TerraEdit supports heightmaps, you can load them and it puts all the heights for the points right. terragen makes heightmaps, you printscreen, touchup, and import into terraedit.
