Well, just out of curiousity, and low diskspace, I'm going to strip my installation of UT2004. This in direct relation to UTXMP, which will be the only working component afterwards :)

I'll add my progress on this lateron, incase anybody else doesn't have the luxury of spending 6 gb on a game that you will rarely play.

FMI, as a question to you; which resources of UT2004 have you used in UTXMP, with regards to textures, sounds, etc. A general answer will do fine, I don't need a complete list :)

That's all for now.

The easy answer: delete all 2K4 maps. Leave textures, sounds, etc for now. That should still save a ton of room.

This is also something I've been wondering. Please FMI if you get some spare time, list all essential files and which can be removed, should be able to loose a couple of gigs.

EDIT: Yes Dubious, thats the most obvious but there will still be tons of uneccesary textures and system files. It would feel way more clean to get rith of them all.

Problem with that then, is that new maps could come out using stock ut2004 textures/sounds/etc. If you delete it, then you'd have to redownload it off the server, if it lets you. :hmm:

... which it wouldn't, since they're all marked as retail packages.

You can delete UT2004 maps. Leave everything else.

The joke is that both sounds and textures are the biggest maps on the UT install. Seeing that XMP is way different from scenery then UT, I hope that most textures and sounds are custom. However, only FMI can answer this.

The problem will indeed be user-made maps. But I hope most mappers will be resourcefull enough to create their own textures.

2K4 is friggin' gigantic. Standard Install + CBP's + ECE's + XMP = 10gigs.

Would love to know how to get rid of that excess crap as well. I mean really, who the hell plays Bombing Run anyways :|

Keasis, just assume user-made maps will link to stock 2k4 textures, sounds, etc...because you know they will. Thats what they are there for.

As far as the scenery in XMP being completely different in XMP...well...thats really for each individual mapper to decide. :)

You honestly won't get away with stripping UT2k4 :p

Seeing how modders/mappers for utxmp, will always add new content themselves, or use existing ut2k4 content.

Get over it! Harddrive space has gotten cheaper, upgrade!

It's just the combination of my intense dislike for UT2004, and the fact that I own a laptop. :D

And it's never wrong to try. :)

no it doesn't ;)

Open up ut2004.ini and find LocalMap=NvidiaLogo.ut2 and change it to LocalMap=NoIntro.ut2 :)

Happy loading <3

yes but if u deleate map folder
it still will happen
u could make ur own of course
is it that hard to understand?
the only map you have to keep is the one you have set @LocalMap.
that can either be NoIntro.ut2 or NvidiaLogo.ut2.

This thread is funny. :D

I would just leave the 2k4 install as is so you can play whatever, whenever. UTXMP isnt the only mod/conversion for 2k4 either.

But if for some reason you decide to delete something to save space, delete the porn first. Then id start deleting DOM-, ONS-, BR-, AS- maps. Unless you like those and prefer to delete DM-, CTF-. Keep the meshes, textures, sounds, animations and stuff. Every map in my folder other than DM adds up to a little over 1.5GB. 3.43GB for all. Includes CPB1.
