Strike Force was released the other day, what's everyone think about it? In my own damned opinion, it's not too bad, but both SWAT and Inf. 2.7x are much better.

The opinions expressed by Derek are purely his own, they do not reflect the opinions of the INF team, any other forum members, Bill Bradley, or a ditch full of rabid howler monkeys.

The following is a purely exaggerated, over dramatized piece of commentary. Any of you hypersensitive, right-winged politically correct, over protective and over-reactive people out there, please disregard this post, any of you normal people, that understand that critism and opinion are perfectly acceptable, read on at your own risk.
[/DISCLAIMER]

All I'm going to say is damn the infiltration team for screwing with my perception of a good mod.

Both SWAT and SF bore me to tears,INF beats them both in every category. Even the old INF 2.7x weapon models, with their blurry textures and all seem better to me than the stuff the other teams are turning out.

But basically, where INF kills is in gameplay. I've honestly tried to enjoy both SWAT and SF, after all, I downloaded both mods on a 2kbps connection as soon as they were released. SWAT I played 3 rounds, enough to try all the weapons, an uninstall followed. SF I played one 2 minute round, tried the weapons, then uninstall.

I seriously felt something close to remorse for downloading the mods, hoping they would be good in some way, and having to delete them in less than 5 minutes due to the fact that I percieved them to be steaming piles...

The INF team should include a letter of apology in the 2.8 release, expressing their sorrow for spoiling the entire UT community.

SWAT+SF, get your acts together and give INF some sort of competition.

Consider that INF is at 2.75 and SF is at beta, I think Strife-Force is goddam cool. It shows alot of potential. And consider that SF is gunning for something completely different than Infiltration. I mean, its nice to suck off the dev team and all, but bashing another mod just doesn't cut it. Praise something for what it has, don't knock it for what it lacks. I could rifle off a million things Infiltration doesn't have, but its pointless, because Infiltration kicks ass for what it is.

mods

In my opinion all of the mods are real good work!!! To do this work in your free time is hard enough I think. All of these programmers do that for free to give us more fun in UT-gameplay, so it´s unfair to say some mods are sh.. Their are diffrent!!! So all of you mod-programmers you are the heroes of the scene.. this is what I think!

IMHO...

First I'd like to say that I don't like the mods either but this is an INF forum and bashing other mods isn't gonna help them at all. And last but not least you don't have to play those mods if you don't like them just delete them and don't start to bash them coz they've all put a lot of time in it and maybe they will be good one day.

Wow, congrats Supernova, you're the first person that I think has ever conveyed the exact same message as my reply did, only using completely different words.

Can you feel the power?

AMEN!

It seems that I forgot to include a tailor-made disclaimer for my post above, I have included one to stifle any further inflammatory commentary.

In my defense: - I know both SWAT and SF are in early beta stages while INF is somewhere ahead of them. In reality, that has nothing to do with my opinion, I was simply assesing the mods qualitatively, not quantitatively.

While you judge "Hey, SF/SWAT is umm...well..., but hey, they're new, so I'll say they're great!".

I go: "Both SF and SWAT look good for first attempts, but they really don't compare to INF as it stands now"

I understand you wanting to give SF+SWAT a chance, but just because the mods are "newbies"
it doesn't mean they get a "point-bonus" on how good they are.

Simply put, its a quality(how good the mods play) VS quantity(how old the mods are) issue.

Again, I have no intent of bashing either SWAT or SF, I'm just calling it like I see it, and I hope you people will be mature/intelligent enough to understand that.

I really don't like mod bashing because I too feel that SF and SWAT have potential, but this must be said:

STRIKE FORCE WILL F*CK UP YOUR UT IF YOU UNINSTALL IT.

When I decided to get rid of it (because frankly I wasn't impressed), the first time I started UT it crashed trying to execute an SF command in the INI! Changed that back to the UT value, run again, ANOTHER crash! Fix that, get into UT finally, launch the server browser and ALL THE TEXT IS F*CKED! Furthermore (I can only guess that SF caused this), whenever I start a botmatch and it says to hit FIRE to continue, NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN YOU HIT ANYTHING!

There have been a few very vocal complaints over an AGUT about this also, people having to reinstall UT because of SF. I certainly think SF has a good mod going and I wish them luck, but I am pissed off. I've gotta reinstall my UT and all the requisite maps, textures, INF beta files, do all the INI tweaks, etc. /infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

NOTE: I am speaking for myself, as an individual, and am NOT representing the Infiltration team or community in this post (hence the lack of a sig).

Gryphon, you aren't alone, the SF uninstall I talked about in my previous post was actually a one hour ordeal in deleting UT completely, reinstalling, getting my controls like they were, perfecting my ini's, finding and installing mods, getting maps in maps, textures in textures, sounds in sounds, music in music, and .u's in system.

The reason I didn't include the above in my other posts is because I didn't want to detract from my main point, I guess it would have strengthened it, but what the hell, SF still killed my UT.

Never, but NEVER, uninstall Strike Force without switching back to UT mode. The starter app replaces your current UT.ini file with one of it's own and it doesn't get switched back until you run the starter again. Delete your UnrealTournament.INI and User.INI files and you might be able to salvage UT.

Having just finished up a major update for the Redeemer, just bought smokes and booze for about ten cute girls that wanted to go down my pants for it, and having Warren send me a sweet sweet windows desktop background for INF, I'm in to good of a mood to argue with a newbie that I would blow out of the water.

Next.
