Stickies

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

This forum is begging for some stickies mainly the level editing topics where people ask the same thing over and over again. Maybe some information about each editing topic, like the new doubts concerning karma that are appearing, could be gathered and posted at that sticky.

Just a suggestion to avoid having 163 threads consisting of the same information.

There should also be a standardized critique :D ("omfg you didn't use the grid, added white lights randomly and just basically used the cube brush builder. Here's what you should always do: ..") like a guide for n00bs to know what they should have for their map before they start asking why people don't enjoy their map and are throwing 0's like there was no tomorrow, or even before they submit the map.

btw when's the new NC edition coming out? :D

Or if we wanted to save time, we could just sticky a thread containing a link to the UnrealWiki, and a warning that anyone who asks a question that can be answered by a simple search on that site will be subject to public ridicule and/or a severe beating. :) That said, I'd be willing to write up an extensive mapper's checklist if you all think that enough people would benefit from it. UnrealWiki has something similar:

http://wiki.beyondunreal.com/wiki/Mapping_Checklist

...but there's plenty that it leaves out, and some of what's there could use some updates or expansion. What do you think of this? I'm not going to spend the time on it unless people will get some benefit from it. Would this be a useful resource, or is what the Wiki has sufficient? Also, would a forum admin be willing to sticky a thread for this purpose?

At this stage I only search for good tips, such as for terrain building, optimization, importing stuff, etc.
But obviously lotsa guys need someone to wake them up and understand that something's wrong with their maps. Something like that but a bit expanded, more deeply on the critical and most times most basic points, would be great. I see no reason for them not to follow it if it will make a better mapper out of them. That's being too much of a n00b "OMFG o0l I ONLY NID TEH DFAEULT TESTUER TO BUILT MEH PRETTAY INSTAHJI/BNUBBAY TREK MAPZ!!!1" f*ckhead.
