yeah, so much for the people who bad mouthed doom3 for being too doomish while valve delivers a game that's almost unplayable due to CEO decisions.
How can you judge, I wonder.

NOVALOGIC is just as bad if not worse then STEAM!! :(
Not only do you have to register the serial # of the game in order to play it, but if you don`t register it, you can`t get access to their forums, which in my case is wacked cause it swallowed my CD key and never sent a confermation e-mail to activate my account. Now when I try to register it again it says the key already in use, can`t get to the forums cause you need an account first, can`t retreave my lost info cause theres no record of my e-mail addy, they don`t answer e-mails, their voice mail box is full....

i think steam is not that bad, and the more money that stays out of publisher's hands the better. its only the first generation of this streaming idea, the first generation of everything always sucks.

I am not sure I understand how Steam is helping developers, unless the developer in question is Valve themselves. Valve controls Steam, right? That makes Valve the publisher for all Steam games. Good for Valve, but what prevents them from screwing with developers like any other publisher?
Feel free to enlighten me.

nothing, and i wasn't talking about all developers. i was just talking in general. something like steam wouldn't work for most games anyways because the main job of a publisher is more advertising costs, valve doesn't need that because they have a ton of (undeserved, IMO) popularity.

Right behind you...
I finished HL2 today while WoW was patching. Apart from a few moments where I had to stop and do a mental nod to Valve, I was fairly disappointed. HL1 was a great gaming experience. This was more of the same but less in many ways... the realistic people but flat storyline made it a technical marvel with a little less heart.
