Static mesh package not saving changes

Why when adding new static meshes to existing package, new changes (new meshes) are not saving (not always, but very often) When you reload package - new meshes aren't there.. this sucks..

hi chacha...

I don't know exactly what are you doing, but let me tell you what i do:

1st - Build the model in maya (or 3dsmax or whatever).
2nd - export it. (So far everyone has to do this)
3rd - import it into the engine. and set the package, group (optional), and name.
(if you already have a package, open it, and then import the new mesh)
4th - save the static meshes.
5th - save the current project (the urt if you are using "unrealengine2 runtime", i dunno the extention of the level in the ut2k3)

Now, lets do the testing part.

1- Reopen the editor
2- Load the static meshes file (you must find it there)
---- Edited
3- Load the textures before the static meshes, some time the textures are setted up in null cuz the texture file is missing... After that you could load the urt file and continue with your work
----

Why am i telling you this, cuz, i don't really know if the engine loads the file when you load the entire project... I was having that problem, but since i start to working like this, every problem i got was gone... :)

I don't have much to add but I'd like to know if you have to have the full version of maya to make static mashes for the runtime, I only have the PLE and it only exports in one format, .mp, I assume the runtime uses .ase.

Complete version or unlimited are not necessary.. Epicgames and Alias have sort of a deal, thats why the actorX plugin works fine with the maya ple.

I don't know if i am getting you right... but i guess you are usig maya and trying to export to the native 3dsmax files (ase)... Well, you can't. Neither in the complete nor unlimited version.. The actorx do that for you ;)

Read http://udn.epicgames.com/Content/StaticMeshesFromMaya for more info. (there is not much to know, but sometimes works)

chacha... try importing them into a .usx file with the ut2k3 version of unrealEd... see if it works there, if it does the runtime will work with that file

If you haven't checked this yet, make sure the package name of the static meshes and the name of the package of the their textures are not the same. Weird, though, I solved this problem simply by saving as different file name.

Hi there, I have a similar problem with the Static Mesh packages. After adding a couple of meshes, the contents just disappear. The freak thing is that it shows up in another package, but doesn't show in filesize....I know it sounds like I have had a few beer too much, but this is what happens.....

When changing a name of a static mesh (sending it to another package) this sometimes causes the whole contents to disappear.

Any tips are extremely greatful, there's a lot of hours work in these packages......

cheers
