OFP modmaker Kegetys released his addon, it's a DLL that uses PixelShader 1.1 and other effects to create reflective water and many other nice effects:

That is impressive. How does it run? Does it demand a lot from the PC or does the GPU take care of the effects?

My FPS in OFP is pretty bad, I can't imagine what it will be with that ;)

It's mostly pixel shaders, so it's GPU based.

It runs on my machine (P4 2.8, 1024 MB RAM, Radeon 9800 Pro) with ~25 fps. Without it I got ~30 fps. Most settings on the highest possible setting, normal terrain detail, 1800m view distance. So the fps drop about 15%. I've heard from GeForce4-owners that it affects their fps much harder, so I think its the GPU that does most of the work.
Also sometimes the water-reflections lag a bit when you move.

I once played OFP, I didn't like it. This may make me try it again.

The NVG's now have a sort of "blur" effect on them to simulate CRT-lag.

Bright lights at night can be set to fade out slowly and to burn in details.

    It's lovely.

Seriously? I've got just about the same rig, save for a few hundred more MHz than you do and a 9800XT and I average at about 70fps with everything maxed out. There's something wrong with your rig. :p

All textures set to 2048x2048? Hm, I use the ECP Addon, which replaces the standard US and Soviet soldiers with high poly models from BAS and high resolution sky textures. Maybe that is responsible for that. Or it is time for a reinstall. Hm

    Edit:

Reinstalled OFP. Still 25 fps when looking down on Davle and the Bridge from the hill NW. Can you place a unit on that hill (FH62) in the mission Editor (Island Nogova) and take a look at the bridge and the town below from there?

    My settings:

    Resolution: 1280x960@32 bpp
    Kegetys DLL: Standard settings
    Geometry Performance: 6991
Cockpit, Object and Landscape textures set to 2048x2048, Special Effects 64x64.
    MaxObjects: 256
    Objects LOD: 0.019
    Shadows LOD: 0.050
View Distance Ingame set to ~1900 m.
