Someone "copied" the runtime map and got hired for it

Check it out:
http://forums.theplatoon.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=25515&whichpage=1

The map was for raven shield, it had the same layout (a copied terrain height map), and several textures were directly exported/imported (including the moving wheat, waterfall and the sky). Also included in the download is the particle emitter for the waterfall, if you look at the files all of the properties have been copied exactly :|

A bit of background:
A beta map was released in the platoon forums, with no credit given to Epic or Demiurge Studios, at the same time that ubi soft's lead artist (Amon) posted a request for resumes. As a result Talon was hired by ubisoft.

A bit sad don't you think?

That is pretty sad, but really it seems like plagiarism issues like this work themselves out. If a company ended up hiring a person who was untalented enough to need to resort to stealing others' work, it will become immediately clear during his first week of employment that they picked up a phony. I've never really gone out of my way to ensure people can't steal my code, maps and art because ultimately they are only screwing themselves.

Yes, that is sad. But you have to wonder about ubi soft and the interview process they go through. The ones I went through lasted a couple days and they drilled you pretty good, no way you could BS your way through it. I'm sure by now the guys at ubi soft know all about the map rip off.

heard a similar story, the interviewee presented work that he said he had done, and the interviewer was the one that actually did the work. you can guess how that turned out... hope that thief gets a good bollicking

The sad thing is that there are loads of people backing the guy up.
It goes to show that a lot of people who get hired are full of **** and don't deserve their place, and that as soon as you are hired people respect you a whole lot more.

Thats why I like Hourences, Desp, Ictus etc. - they were people who everyone knew and respected beforehand. I don't know about this Talon, but it seems he wasn't too well known anyway, and built his successes on ripped work.

[EDIT] blah, didnt realise this thread was old
Stop linking old threads :p
