Hey all -

I'm fairly new to INF and I'm looking for some tips. I've been playing offline for several months getting the hang of things. I've played UT much in the past, not online but at LAN parties. INF took some adjusting, but I think I'm ready for online play. I know the general concepts like don't stand out in the open and be tactical not a bum-rushing monkey with an AK... But I'm looking for tips on online play. I've never done it, and I imagine there are things you have to account for that don't come into play in offline mode.

Also, I'm kindof looking for a mentor(s). I see a lot of clans out there but you have to be pretty good to join or have to know certain people. Also, some of the clans I've seen have really rigid attendance rules. Of course I want to participate as much as possible, but I have an 8-5 job and am taking classes 3 days a week. I'd like to join a clan for experince and to learn the ropes from experienced players though. Are there any clans out there that would train me or maybe some people that would be willing to help me out? I hate to sound like a complete noob, but I'm just looking for an environment where I can learn the tricks of the trade.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated, and I hope to see all of you online sometime for a great TDM.

I guess you gotta start somewhere! So welcome to the loonybin... I mean .... well ya knopw what I mean :p

The best advice I can give you is go online and play! Stick to an experienced players arse and see what they do ......

Learn the maps ..... online .... They are played very differently.

Keep your loadout light ...... learn to shoot from the hip and aim properly.

Also don't get too used to the way things are 2.87 is on it's way out and game play may be completely different.

Short and sweet : Be patient and die alot! ;)

Let the pimpage begin!

There are a lot of quality servers out there. However, if you want to make INF even more realistic, play on a server with RealAim (ra). RA makes stamina decrease faster, makes it so you can only have one primary weapon, and other misc. realism features. If you want to learn real life tactics, I suggest that you log onto the AFA2 server (which has ra, randomspawn, and a compass). Pretty much everyone there tries to emulate real life tactics, and the teamwork is superior to other servers. RA decreases the 'run & gun' aspect of regular INF. Also, I am willing to be that any player there will let you shadow them. That is the best way to learn the maps. If you want to, spectate a couple of rounds watching both teams to see how they work together. I don't really want to stereotype, but usually the clan players there would be good ones to follow. I am sure you will pick it up in no time. As for loadouts, try not to carry anything that isn't needed. You usually don't need too many grenades (you can always pick some up off of bodies). I hope this helps, and see ya on the servers.:)

Tuner, welcome to the forums and online Infiltration.

Drop in on the AFA2 server, like E said. This is where (of course) the AFA clan plays as well as the Ghost Dogs. Most of they people that play on that server are a great bunch of guys/girl (where the heck is Melfina_lm?) Except for a few ass baskets that come in and disrupt things occasionally, you'll find some of the best tactical game play there.

Also, you can click my signature to check out what our clan is all about.

E, don't worry. I'll bring it next time I see you on AFA big dog!:D

Ghost, as always, I look forward to the challenge. And I think Melf had her computer time 'limited' by her folks. And Turner, don't be afraid to use the Shooting Range, it can help quite a bit if you let it.

Thanks guys - I certainly will. :D I've looked around on the forums and it looks like keeping the loadout under 25-30LBS is ideal. Also, I noticed the MP5 and M16 seem to be the weapon of choice. I've run around with the MP5 but I can't seem to get used to it. With the M16 is fine. I think I'd like to use the MP5 because of the suppressor attachment. Are there any pointers on getting control of this thing? It seems to have more recoil or something... I just can't get ahold of it. :enforcer:

Also, several people I've emailed have told me to "shoot from the hip" - and I've found out I'm terrible at this!! :( How can I practice shooting from the hip? Any tips/tricks? Thanks again!

Bear in mind that once 2.87 comes out you'llhave 3 choices for a silenced smg...The theMP5, the P90, and the FAMAS. I prefer the p90 myself over the mp5, i just prefer the way it handles and i like the aimpoint sight. I dont like the FAMAS, it handles well but the sights suck, (in my opinion). Shooting from the hip with any SMG is gonna be really hard unless yur really close to the enemy, like 5 to 15 feet, I dont reccomend that. The best thing to do is remember not to hold the trigger down, short controlled bursts of no more than 5 to 10 rounds...even 10 rounds with an mp5 is pushing it.....If you have a hard time compensating for the recoil regardless, take deez's example of aiming low so the recoil brings the shots up to the head, as a last resort, but practice compensating forthe recoil first.

I don't use the mp5 much, but I would suggest not using the aimpoint attachment. It seems rather useless to me. It takes up quite a bit of your field of vision. Who suggested that you should shoot from the hip?! Don't listen to them. In RA, you can't run with the gun aimed, so if you are running, you have to shoot from the hip. Other than that or when you are taken by suprise and you don't have time to aim it, I would never shoot from the hip. It is way too inaccurate to be beneficial. And like I said before, the Shooting Range can do wonders if you use it.:)

Hip shooting does have limited use ,but you still need to know how to do it.

It's a life saver when you use a rifle with acog scope. If someone get's too close switch to full auto and give them a severe case of led poisoning!

Although I agree with Nowhere on the deficiencies of the aimpoint, I'll add that the in-game MP5 sights are unrealistically modeled (they are too open), and so the aimpoint can give you a more realistic experience. In addition, the glowy dot can help with target acquisition in very dark spaces (especially Dockside).

I have an additional reason to enjoy the MP5/aimpoint combo: when I was playing paintball, I used a Vector (http://airsoldier.com/~apog/gallery.shtml) with an aimpoint, so for me it's just like playing ball again!

Dont eat yellow snow :p

Well, all I can say is "Use the Force". ;)

You'll be fine, just remember to shoot the same direction as everyone else is shooting.
