Hi,
I have played UT back in 2000 a lot, missed out on 2k3 and played 2k4 only a little bit. So after I finally took notice that they remade Face with a remix of the original music, I decided to buy UT3 on sale and play it a bit ;)

So I have two questions. The first one is about the dodging feature. I often read that you would need to master it in order to master the game. I honestly don't care and just want to disable it completely because I always keep dodging around when I don't intend to, thus falling off edges and losing orientation, it's just annoying. To my surprise there is no switch in the menu to do so. So I googled a bit and found out that I should change this:

[UTGame.UTPlayerController]
bEnableDodging=true

to 'false'. So I did, but it doesn't work, I still dodge around. What am I doing wrong, and is there a way to disable it?

The second question is about the dynamic music, which has turned out to be some kind of dealbreaker for me. Playing CTF-Face this way is a pain, so I use winamp to play the remix while turning off the music. I have been looking for a workaround for this (just want the regular ambient music to play permanently). I also googled about this a bit and found some threads in the official Epic Games forums that are a few years old, still running and keep being ignored. The threads in this forum don't offer a workaround. I found a jukebox mutator but I am not sure whether this is what I am looking for (it creates a mix out of all tunes from a map in contrary to just only playing the ambient sound). Is there or is there not an ingame workaround for this problem? There doesn't seem to be.

Many greetings :)

Which ini, specifically, did you modify to disable dodging, and in which folder location is it? I think if you keep your config files in the game's install directory instead of the My Games\UT3\ directory, you will run into issues. Also, if you modified only the Default version of the file, that won't affect the existing one, I'm pretty sure.

The dynamic music, unfortunately, can't be disabled as far as I'm aware. Some maps use a fixed music file and thus have no dynamic music, but none of the stock maps do this. Either you get used to it, as I have, or you do what you're doing now and run it in Winamp externally. You can extract the music from the game or (and I really recommend this) get the soundtrack, which is awesome, and play that via Winamp. You can make the experience more or less painless by setting Manual Playlist Advance so it loops your current song, and then use global hotkeys to change tracks without alt-tabbing the game.

LOL!... No offense to the OP, but when someone has to turn off the music in game, only to play the same friggin music through a media player...

I'm not a ut basher, but thats tough to defend right there.

"some kind of dealbreaker" LMAO

This post reminds of a free car that i tried to give away a few years back, the guy that came to look at it sat and picked it apart and pointed out all the things wrong with it, some petty things too, there were 3 of us who went to meet him, we all looked at each other scratching out heads wondering what he was on. (not saying this about you either OP, just saying this is what this reminded me of)

No offense OP, but if you don't want to dodge maybe play HL2. The dodge aspect of the UT / Gears series makes me think all FPS's should have such a feature. And honestly those companies who don't wish they would/could, you see it generically imitated all the time with things like; sprint....... nano-suit........ etc.

there is kinda a way to turn it off

if you ajust the time requited to trigger the dodge to lets say 0.0000000001

then it wont dodge.

Hi guys,
thanks for your replies. So I found out what the problem with the dodging was, when I change the UTGame.ini in the MyGames folder, it works as long as I play offline, but it seems to be overwritten as soon as I join a server. So that sucks, but then I tried the other suggestion and reduced the dodge reaction time to a minimum and now it doesn't happen anymore, thanks!
I don't actually have a problem with dodging, so if you want to dodge, dodge until you can't walk anymore :p My problem was that the dodge would go off unintentionally just by walking around, so that really sucked.

About the music and the dealbreaker thing, so you know guys I don't really care if you deem me worthy enough to play a game or not... I don't play UT3, I play Facing Worlds, I bought UT3 only to bring back the endless Face sessions I had with UT in 2000, and the music is integral part of that, it's just not the same without. So I was very disappointed when I learned about the dynamic music system, which ruins the game for me. It's ok if it doesn't ruin the game for you. To each his own I guess. Thanks for the help anyway :)

Yea, its unfortunate you can't disable the dynamic music. That's why i created my own music sets for my maps where i would just put the same track in all the slots so it should be like a single track. Im not sure if it actually works tbh, because i play with music off.

Though i know some people don't like the dynamic music system, if that's the "dealbreaker" for you, well, you probably aren't enjoying the game enough as it is. And it's rather narrow to only be able to play just one map out of dozens. Whether you think so or not, you're missing out on a lot of content.... If you only like one map, and you like it purely because of the really not all that special music, then you probably shouldn't have bothered.

Not that i'm not a fan of face or anything, after all, I did convert the map for Jailbreak (And no, I didn't change the music)

First brightskins, now this, Sir is again telling everbody how the game is to be enjoyed.
um, no, i'm not. If you want to pay $20 for 1% of the content of a game, be my guest. I just think said person is missing out on a lot of perfectly playable content (And I'm also disagreeing with his opinion on the original Face music- It's certainly not bad, but really, UT had a lot of better tracks...). Glowsticks is an entirely different issue. So  all you want, you don't really know what you're talking about.

Nowhere did I say to anyone "You have to stop playing like that now, it's a crime." I'm merely expressing my opinion about an issue. Thats a hell of a lot different from telling anyone what to do.

I grade maps and gametypes on one thing and one thing only: Intensity. Liking only one map or a couple of maps because it fits the play style you enjoy is not wrong.
