some imported tutorial textures crash!

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

I've just started the "Mastering Unreal Technology" book tutorials, and find, no matter what method I try, some textures, static meshes etc that are on the accompanying CD cause UnrealEd to throw up the usual no label error, stating that I am using commercial files which is not allowed. The program then crashes. I have a feeling this could be a program glitch. I built my own computer which is fast well kept and the graphics card is ATI 9800XT. Other than this frustration the book and tutorials are excellent.

Visit site
if the tutorials are providing Unreal packages from the commercial game distributions (i.e., files from UT200x), then they are the problem. content from the commercial-engine games cannot be imported/opened/used in Runtime. even original content created by a user from scratch for game mod/map development is not permitted.

afaik, to develop content for the Runtime engine, it must be produced using the Runtime UnrealEd, e.g., only static meshes imported from Max or Maya (or another appropriate 3D app) into the Runtime Editor will work with the Runtime; textures would need to be imported from appropriate graphics files.

Any idea how to contact the book authors?

Thanks Chip. I sort of figured that was the case. Does anyone have any idea how to contact the book authors on this matter?

I have looked around a little on the publishers site and couldn't find anything useful.

Hi this thread has been open a few months i was wondering if anyone had got any joy from the publisher. Or anyone had figured out a work-around? So frustrating as some of the meshes on the cd are sexy and i am unable to import them :( !

I sent an e-mail to the publisher, but never received any reply. Have since gone on to other projects.
