why worry about industry standard if you're not in the industry? ;)

I use Lightwave because atleast I'm able to make something that looks halfway ok with it. With max I'm fighting more with the horrible ui than actually making shit.

I'd really like to give Maya a shot, but I haven't been able to install NT on my PC yet, so...

No, that's why win98 sucks.

anything is better than max...

...and it seems like the industry is finally getting that, since more and more companies are switching to lightwave or maya.

and max is hardly used in the film industry at all..

Hmm, I warezed Max ages ago. Was just interested to see what people were using :)

Milkshape is bloody confusing - I only use it for importing .3DS files for conversion to Unreal format models. (When I use the Max Unreal .3D model exporter, it screws the UV mapping - meh)

dont try running max under win98 unless you've got a GPF fetish.

The only reason MAX isnt used for cinematics is it's low quality render, but there's plugin renders like Brazil & mentalray

for low poly game work it's more than adequate

Coincidentally Balton, I installed WinXP today.

There are fluffy ghey icons everywhere, which seem to have sprung up like a mutant crop of brocolli. Feck :(

XP is a big step forward for windows...it has much better networking, programs crash less often ( but take longer to recover when they do ) and its generally more powerful...although not without faults.

I doubt that's the only reason, since most companies don't use out-of-the-box rendering anyways :)

One of the reasons why Maya is so popular is because you get multiple rendering lisences with each copy (I think), which means that you don't have to buy an additional copy for each machine in your rendering farm. Which I think you have to do with most other packages.
