Single Player Idea

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. Looks like my last good idea has been posted quite a while before, so it's time for a new one.
(actually I don't know if it's a good one, or if it has been posted before, since my web access is quite bad these days..)..
..anyway:

How about some sort of single player campaign/career mode?
Before anybody starts yelling 'be more specific'..
One had to buy some weapons with some money for the start, together with hireing some bots and go out to missions with them. You'd be able to select from the mission type and map, maybe with restrictions on how good and well equipped your team is.
For successful missions you get money to buy ammo, new weapons, new equipment etc.
In addition maybe your skills and the bots skills would improve(which should not be that hard with the bots skills..).
Though this career had no ultimate goal, it would surely be fun to see your bots get better, to get new weaps and equippment.

I really got no idea about how hard this would be to code, but it would be surely a single player enhancement for UT and INF.

So feel free to comment about this..hope some like the idea too..

You could also get some inspiration from Soldier of Fortune's story. I think Inf weapons fit very well in SoF-like setting.

sounds like a good idea, even if the battles only keep going on forever without any real point (like the "career mode" from Heavy Gear) It'd still be neat to at least a sense of advancement and accomplishent.

This also reminds me a bit of a topic that came up a bit earlier, having to do with "advancement" in multi-player games..
(here comes the dumb idea)
my take on this would be that if a player lives for X number of rounds in a row, or kills X number of bad guys, they get a "star" (Wonder where I got _that_ idea from, hmmm..) they show up on the F1 score screen and end of round screen, but other than that have no real use whatsoever. (other than for people to look at and say "Wow, he's got a shitload of stars...He must be good" I know it's dumb, but it's the kind of thing that will get gamers playing for hours trying to get 5 stars or whatever....(note: I am not ask anyone to take this suggestion seriously, this is just a brainfart.)

I haven't read through this thread fully, but from the subject of it, I know this is an excellent idea, and one the Inf team has had on the forefront of our minds to expand Inf. We will do our best to make it as user friendly as possible so you can go in and create your own campaigns.
