I think it's about time that nalicity sends out a clear message to anyone who thinks adding a few vehicles to a stockmap or similar nonsense. Though, most of the comments on these maps tend to be extremely amusing.

There's certainly a lot of nonsense out there, but problems might appear when it comes to defining what a rip-off map actually is. Sure, a NaliCity staff decision/poll for every single map might work, but I guess some kind of criteria list would have to be written down somewhere on the actual site, as a part of general information about map submissions. Or maybe I'm seeing this issue as a more complicated one than it already is...?

ofcourse there needs to be a definition of what rip offs are. I think simple renames, useless LE versions and other maps that got a few "tweaks" , direct ports etc.

just take the never ending dispute about deck16 remakes and then look at bot40's deck40. deck40 is awesome but canibascorpse deck_16 maps not.

"Simple renames"...well, plagiarism shouldn't be accepted on a mapping site, so those should be removed without any doubt. There certainly are many direct ports and random LEs/SEs/WTFOMFGEs that have hardly been changed at all in comparison to original maps; but there should also be quite a few maps out there that wouldn't fit in any of the obvious categories. Maybe the issue isn't as complicated as I'm portraying it here, tho' :)

I propose that we increase the administration... obviously I can't do everything. The admins on the site (if they don't already realize it) can remove maps. Obviously some reasonable judgement should be used when using this feature, thus the admins need to be reliable.

Any recommendations?

And who is going to go through the maps as they're uploaded and filter them all out?

just encourage people to report rip off maps. It's impossible to check out all maps but there's the chance to crop out the worst of the rip offs.

My first thought when reading this post's "encourage people" part was something like "get a free review for each five rip-off map reports ;)

DISCLAIMER: This post is NOT to be taken seriously, and I believe what I posted here is an absolutely awful idea. I also know that the point of Balton's post had nothing to do with anything resembling what I posted here.

hell no, rip off maps need to stay because the reviews and comments on them are hilarious

maybe admins can give these maps some hilarious picture by prophet and an auto zero mode... or so... we NEED cruel and unusual punishment for these maps!

You just could make a GIGANTIC fool out of the author so he'd be too emberassed to publish any rip-off ever again. Imagine a review, pretty large one, with nothing but insults and sentences like; "The ONLY thing changed in this map are the weapons. Apparently, that's the only thing he can do, what a brilliant move, changing all the weapons into Target Painter. It briallantly destroys the whole map. But that's what ... does best... etc. etc. " So a review like that, and about 50 comments, containing similar language. And only 0's of course.
Now would you have the guts to come out again and do the same thing? Of course not, you'll be busy to build your own map to prove them wrong. I hope.... for their sake...

Harsh, schmarsh..
look, aren't you EVER getting sick and tired about all those ONS-Torlan{PhoenixParadise} like maps? Well, I am. Plus everyone will love it! OK, perhaps a little less harshness to the author in the review is good, but you can't stop the masses from posting their views on a crapmap. I suggest just giving those masses a little push in the back, because iy's easy to see hjow much the follow the leader, which is the reviewer in this case.

No, and no. We don't need LE maps. If leagues want their elite LE versions of maps, they can host them themselves.

I personally agree that a LE map that only makes minor changes should be removed, but remake maps from other game types ported over should not be a problem as long as the author doe not claim it as his own work, lots of people like playing maps they already know from older games, UT2k4 is proof of that since the game actually has remakes of original unreal and ut maps, also maps that are not remakes but use similar layouts should not be labeled remakes, every arena style map with a rocket launcher, altho gameplay will be similar, is not Morbias.

I gladly volunteer what time I have to going thru the UT data base and checking for maps with no real changes, or ones missing packages that are not in the game itself or the epic bonus packs, but keep in mind this means I would put Brunel which is missing richrig on the chopping block.

Admin contact me if youd like me to setup a clean install and start goin thru maps for you.

EDIT:

Hmmm its funny, disagree with you, make fun of you and slam the Prophet= get 20 replies

Offer help=get 0 replies.

I wonder why I would think Nalicity is bout anything but bieng lametards.

i think if you start removing maps for whatever reason, NC may turn into
a leet-ist site and personally the mix between master maps & newbie maps
is what makes NC what it is.

leave it alone.

saying that i would like woot & andaction scrapped:p
