Should I wait for the 64-bit chip?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

I saw that the Athalon 64 was coming pretty soon. While I plan on getting a new notebook in the near future and i doubt that it will be avalible moblily at first (or that it will be available from major manufacturers who mostly use intel chips except for Alienware) I cant ignore that feeling that my systems will quickly become obsolete as applications are developed in 64-bit. Is this something I should wait a few months for? Anyone have an idea how much more expensive this stuff is going to be?

I doubt that we will see moblie athlon 64 chips earlier than two years from now so I wouldn't hold my breath until I got one.:( The Athlon64 and Opteron are both able to run both 32 bit and 64 bit software so current software definately won't be going anywhere anytime soon.:) Unfortunately the new processors will most likely cost much more than current AMD processors. Probably $200 for a entry level processor whereas an entry level Athlon XP currently costs $50. Think AMD processors with an Intel pricing scheme. :con:
