Sharing maps with morpheus,kazaa,gnutella

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Does anybody share maps downloaded from Nali City using one of the P2P client applications such as Morpheus, Kazaa, or Gnutella? I've searched on Morpheus for stuff like "CTF-Thorns" but there's nothing.

I assume there's no license problem.

Of course, there's probably a problem of making sure that the maps aren't corrupted or anything. Looking at the NC Map Database, the size isn't shown down to the byte level, so it's hard to check from the source. Also, I'm sure most people wouldn't want to start verifying their files with md5 [1] or sfv [2] signatures.

Any thoughts?

I always share my UT folder when I use p2p sharing programs
you'd be surprised how many people share their entire hard drives without realising it. do a documents search for "pass" "private" or "secret" the next time you're on a guntella client, you'll get some interesting results.

as for kazza and morpheus, i really wouldn't advise using them. i've heard some (many actually) horror stories about them opening sensetive pr0ts on your PC, letting virus' and other things onto your computer that even zone alarm won't pick up on, and morpheus is by all accounts little more than a vehicle for all manner of spyware regardless of what the website claims. read some of the stuff here to get more info.

personally i use xolox which isn't great for music but is good for movies, tv episodes, pr0n and apps. it's a little under-featured but other than that it's perfectly good.

Personally I use Tiny Personal Firewall, which I believe is more secure and stable than Zone Alarm. You can watch where your programs are connecting to with TPF.

I do not find those "horror stories" to be convincing in the slightest. It seems to me that it's more user error than anything. Therefore I'll continue to use Morpheus.

Thanks for the info. I'll give that gnutella-based program a try as well.

Back on topic.

I've been letting a bunch of people download from me, off my meager ISDN line... Ah well, as long as they know what they're getting and if it helps them.

I think the p2p authors have fallen victim to the revenueware folks (or adware, or spyware - whatever you prefer). New.net, Onflow, and others have pulled some pretty crappy releases, but blame them - not the folks giving you free software.

Luck ?

I guess then Im one of the lucky KaZaA users. So far no probs whatsoever, except when the program misses its logon and I cant get anything.

The SpyWare and other crap I managed to avoid by cleaning the **** out before I launched the program 1st time..

[EDIT] Oh yes forgot to meantion that I do share my maps, textures, soudns and music from UT and SF. I dont share the actual program as I strongly oppose warez, the only problem may be that I dont have the HDD space to have zillion maps. [/EDIT]
