Now the Senate needs to pass it's Bill, then the two bills need to be merged, and then be passed in both the House and the Senate again. Then, and only then, we get to start "Death Paneling" old people!

So wait, basicly what this bill does is drop healthcare prices 4% and increases tax for wealthy people 5.4% to pay for it?

    Is there a public option?

215 elected officials voted against the right for their constituents to have access to basic healthcare.

    that right there, is sad.

    anaemic is right.

Personally if the US government is capable of going BALLS DEEP into the housing crisis without thinking about the possible downsides they should be able to do the same with healthcare.

    Saving lives > selling houses

Beer is considered a health hazard and will soon be taxed to cover the health expenses of non beer drinking Americans.

you thought the housing crisis was a mess? just wait...

really, people that don't live in the US or don't actually have to pay for their own insurance (hi kiddies) shouldn't even talk about this.

All this bill will do is tax more and kill jobs to cover some of the 10 million ppl that can't afford it... that ALREADY GET HEALTH CARE.

I personally think this is a travesty for America. There are more and better ways to provide coverage for a greater percentage of Americans, but the Dems won't hear it and the GOP is too lame to take on the progressive left with any real backbone. Forcing everyone who can to pay or in one way or another is bull****. Why does the Federal Government need to dictate to me what type of medical coverage is sufficient for me? And to top that off, why should I be made to pay a tax (penalty) for not having what Congress and Obama say is proper coverage?

You do realize that at most, 96% will be covered by this glorious plan, don't you? Oh, but Obama is telling us that EVERYONE will be covered. Did you know that the uncovered are actually accounted for and this number must to be at a certain level for this plan to be "successful"? What kind of crap is that?

You say that 96% is better than 83%? Sure, sounds good on paper, but wait until the bills roll in. More jobs will be lost as employees and individuals cannot afford this coverage but will pay for it anyway out of fear of being penalized by our Government. And what about the slow rate of payout like we see in Medicare? This control should be delegated to the States, where we see state run Medicaid programs pay as expediently as many private insurance companies. You do realize that slower payments overall hurt the caregivers we depend on and put many out of business or drive them out due to sheer frustration over trying to make a living and trying to do what is right as a caregiver. O hope you realize that many low cost clinics and offices run on a shoestring budget already and this legislation, if passed, could run many of those out of business, which ends up with only the "big" boys playing the game, as it were.

i know what you should do, un'socialise' policing and fire departments, why the hell should everyone have to pay to stop someone elses house burning down. No ones shooting at me I don't need the police, ill save my money and pay for a private security company like they do in south africa. [IMG]

Except those services are run at the CITY level, are paid for with CITY funds and are actually enumerated responsibilities of the government.

    But never mind that.

right because city level funding doesn't come from taxes, and city and state management has such a long history of being better than federal run projects.

at the end of the day it might not be your personal perfect implementation of healthcare for all, but 'an introduction to healthcare for all 101' is a hundred million times better than squabbling over details and ending up staying in the dark ages.

Mismanaged city funds don't put every American in the hole. The point is, if healthcare was being run and paid for at the city or state level, it would be a completely different story. And those programs do come from local taxes, that was actually part of my point. Would you rather pay for your neighbor who needs it to get a loaf of bread and see him enjoy it, or pay for someone 2,000 miles away who doesn't need it get a loaf of bread and never see it?

Also, city and state management DO have a long history of being better than federal run projects, because, unlike the federal government, cities and states don't have a choice but to have a balanced budget. Otherwise they actually go bankrupt.
You sure about that? I'd like to know what makes you think implementing something guaranteed to be broken and lose billions of dollars before anyone does anything to fix it is better than waiting and getting it right the first time.

yeah its very easy to say that, when you are not seriously ill, and when you can afford, and insurance companies will sell you healthcare.

delaying healthcare is an issue of money for you, delaying healthcare is an issue of life or death for other people. I think they get priority.

    For who?

I have family that has been seriously ill. And I've had insurance at the time. So who are these people you are talking about? Are they young people who could have afforded health insurance but chose not to? Are they people who qualify for federal programs and don't need help?
