Robar penetration is FUBAR

I have tested the penetrating power of all the weapons in INF with a self-modified version of the INF-plate level.

The penetration of the Robar is less than that of the AK and PSG. Here are the values:
Thick plate (5 UU)
Thin plate (1 UU)

# of Thin plates penetrated/ # of Thick
MP5 4/2
M16 9/4
AK 11/5
PSG 12/6
Robar 9/4 -- !!?? :hmm:

This is obviously wrong because the Robar should have waay more penetrating power than any other weapon in INF.

The Robar'sroll rate is undermodeled, and its climb rate is way off. Besides, the damage model is all wrong... I have charts that i did not make up to prove it !!!!!! It mustbe because Beppo is german - he has a bias towards HK versus Robar !!!!!

I'm not, i'm not. I'm merely smiling at the similarity between your post, with a lot of testing going on, and the many posts in FB forums that try and prove to Oleg that their favorite plane should be slightly better at this or that altitude and whatnot ;) Relax, i'm not implying anything....

Question : what did you test with ? Vanilla 2.9 ? Any mutator ? Bulletsounds 2 is known to mess with the penetration values.

The results I posted are the ones I got from vanilla 2.9

I also tested BS2 and BS3. BS2 totally messed it up by making all weapons 2/1. BS3 yields the same results as vanilla.

Also, I tested all the weapons, but only posted enough to make my point.

Does this matter at all, are the maps build with realistic thickness value for walls? I only know Frozen where that problem could make a difference.

"official maps" are one thing, as they were tested a very lot of time ;) before release.
But what will be of the new user maps that are released regularly and played on servers ?
Maybe the problem can become more important as long as the new maps are coming

[101st]_Lich contacted me over a month ago already and we decided to release a quick fix mutator. But unfortunately I somehow forgot to make it.
Yesterday, Lich contacted me again and I made the needed mutator for fixing this problem within a couple of minutes.
You can grab the mutator from the official .50 projectile penetration fix ! thread.

A mutator is way easier to handle and doesn't affect anything at all. As you can see, the first version of this mutator was able to cause GPFs... just think about a patch with several MBs that causes mismatches, forcing players to download a whole new package (several MB) and then it causes a GPF and so they have to grab a new patch some days later again.... would mess up things 'a bit'.
A mutator can easily exchanged and the server side ones even do not need to be downloaded. And client side ones will automatically land in your cache folder. A lot easier and cleaner to spread.

Well 'only' the player setup and general rules are stored within a mutator. It controls the first player settings applied after spawning that then call ie. the loadout setup aso, and it controls the waves, rounds and such stuff. But the actual part controlled by our base mutator is way smaller than the rest of our content by far. :)
