O.K., I've completed my plans for a mode that could replace the classic mode.

1.) Bodyguard
A Tango-team, a special military unit and a VIP. The VIP and the 'bodyguards' start at the same place and have to fight their way to a helicopter that will fly the VIP out of the area. Easy task - if there wouldn't be any tangos. Because their task is to assassinate the VIP.
I like the main idea but I think it'd be great if it was possible to vary with the story.
For example:
The VIP is the president, a SEAL team has to bring him out of the area while terrorists have to kill Mr. Clinton.
Or the other way round:
Good old Saddam is the VIP; his bodyguars have to bring him away and American assassins have to kill that bastard. (Would be funny)
You see there're many possibilities for variations to this mode.
You'd need 3 models, a VIP, a SEAL team and terrorists. Then you can play around with the skins, the VIP changes from Saddam to Bill, the terrorists change to bodyguars and the SWAT/SEAL team changes to assassins.

2.) 'still no name' /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
again the same models and groups: SEAL-team, tangos and a VIP.
Let's think of this situation. Terrorists have infiltrated an embassy and have killed everyone inside besides the ambassador who has managed to hide himself and call for help. The SWAT/SEAL team knows where he is (because he told them /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ) and has got the task to get him out of the embassy. The tangos are anywhere inside the embassy and don't know from the existence of the embassador -> they can't kill him while he hides in his secret place (you could make a room that is only accessable for the SEALs.)
The tangos can kill the embassador when he's out of his hiding (SEALs can always be killed). If the embassador or the whole SEAL team is killed, the terrorist have won and get points. If the SEAL team has managed to get the embassador to a safety zone outside the embassy, the've won and get points.
(Mapmakers, take a look at 'operation steel wind' from the game Rainbow Six!!!)
To assure that this mod won't get boring, the embassador can choose his hiding before the match begins.
Feel free to ask if you haven't understood anything

To make everything more exciting, the VIP can hardly defend himself. Maybe with his fists. That's still to discuss.

You could take over the concept of choosing your loadout from standoff (IF you implement this system - btw: would be amazing!)

Another idea is a simple hostage rescue. Terrorists guard the hostage and the SEAL team tries to rescue him. Simple but surely good idea...

O.K., so what do you think???

That "frag the president" game sounds very good, but replacing classic is almost like replacing the original infiltration idea, classic can still improve and I'm sure the infiltration team will do everything they can to make it even better, if however that president game should ever make it to infiltration, I'd suggest the presidents are bot controlled, since the presidents normally don't use guns and not everyone will be happy to play a defensless character I think...

Only real problem with these modes is this...

Someone has to play the VIP. How many players will want to get on-line and run around in the middle of a group of players who all have guns and are getting to shoot people, while you (the VIP) are standing around prone looking very much like a target. Sure it would work cool, and if the VIP is changed each round then fine, but still for some it would all be too much, the rounds where they have to play the VIP would more than likely bore them.

That's all. Other than that, total agreeance. Especially for the seal/terrrorist idea, my idea also.

Catalyst and I discussed this very mode more tonight and we've got a working idea we're gonna run with. If it doesn't work out, then at least we can build on it to make it work right. As far as who plays the VIP, it will depend on how good the bots are in UT. If they're as good as Epic says they are, then we might not have a problem making a VIP that can obey orders, hide when the shooting starts, and stay close to one of the protectors. Otherwise I see many problems having the VIP played by a human.

How about simply blowing up a number of buildings/targets/trucks. (Bear with me, if I start drivelling slap me, OK?) /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

One of the coolest things about infiltration is the sheer level of destruction that can take place without anyone getting hurt, right?

Anyway, lets have a new item on the Mod, called, quite descriptively, the C4 explosives pack. Following this? Good!

The attackers, with their all important explosives expert (kitted out with rucksack packed with explosives and sub machine gun),
must infiltrate the enemy base, plant the explosives, run like hell and let rip with atomic-like white flash, huge explosion and general victory.

The explosives expert would, of course be a VIP, his death resulting in loss of the round.
Everyone else is expendable, right? RIGHT??? /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Anyway, this would, I think, be more stimulating than a VIP who means nothing except victory/defeat. The player who plays the expert would have quite a lot to do (not getting killed one of them) while sneaking in, plantng the bomb and running away as fast as his legs ( now mercifully unburdened from the weight) can carry him.
I think that it'd be really cool, the explosion would be a pretty spectacular for a start if it was done properly, the kind of effect that you get from seeing a flashbang grenade (Arrrgh! I can't s...) combined with a really big explosion would be a really satiflying. As would lining up your crosshair on the experts backpack and watching him blown Sky High /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Also, what about a more advanced means of comunication?

The essence of good tactical combat is good communication. Right?

I suggest having maybe half a dozen 'hot messages' such as "Ready on my mark" and "Go", or something to that effect would really add to the effect of the game. It mightn't to be too hard to code in the key bindings for a few team-specific sounds, or would it??? Hmmmm....

That's what I thought!

Although it mightn't be totally realistic to have the pack blow up when hit by a bullet- C4 is inert until an electrical charge it passed through it, then...... BOOM!

(Boom or bang??? I suppose it doesn't mater)

Thats a good idea, but the explosion needs to destroy the base too, not just kill everyone inside. That would be SO cool watching the entire base get blown to peices and all thats left is a pile of rubble! You could just make the base out of moving brushes, and have them all go into the floor at light speed or something when they get triggerd by the C4 explosion.
