Over the weekend Renegade X moved on to beta .05 stage and the build is available for download. The change list has all the details.

This is the final UT3 build and it will be moved over to the Unreal Development Kit. In the meantime, you may be interested in the fact that they've released the source code to aid anyone wishing to make custom content for the mod.

Seven sweet screenshots:

as of yet, no bot support, simply because we don't have anyone who can code AI, and is not already busy working on other, more important features of the mod.

that's not a UT-bot.
It just an automated-spammer for IRC-channels ... the communication-channel of the prehistoric internet-era ;)

That, and through the IRC bot, a moderator can kick/ban players, players can vote for the next map, players can donate credits to other players, most kills awards, etc.

Actual AI bots are not yet ingame, but they will make their appearance in our UDK release. Though Renegade X mod has a pretty good player-base for online.

Care to explain how you've managed to get rid of the AI that seems so integral to the way UT works ?
Did getting rid of pickups effectively kill the AI ?
Because I think it really is odd that pretty much any mod manages to break the AI ...

That said ... better late than never at all.

Perhaps it's the fact that Renegade X isn't a deathmatch or CTF mod. We'd need to code AI that can use the purchase terminal screens, buy appropriate vehicles or weapons depending on the map's scenario and amount of credits have been awarded, attack & destroy structures, target weak points of structures, use C4s effectively, disarm superweapon beacons, etc.

Start by breaking it down into simple tasks and objects.
If you've ever looked at gametypes in an abstract manner then you'd noticed that there is only one gametype and that is attack/defend the objective(s).

Maps have one or more objectives that need to be attacked or defended.
Assault and ONS are the most complex variants.
CTF would be simple (only 2 objectives to attack/defend).

What you'd need to do is prioritise those objectives and tell the bots to defend/attack those with the highest priority first.
Then check and re-evaluate that list at critical moments during the game.

Buying weapons/equipment could be done by deciding which weapons/vehicles are most effective for each objective and then picking the one that is both affordable as well as effective.
In fact it isn't much different from the way the bots decide which pickups to get, except they wouldn't have to walk anywhere ...

Of course you could fake resource-intelligence by simply building a sort of tech-tree that the AI follows during the course of the game depending on whether they need defensive or offensive resources.

I'm not suggesting that this will be 'easy', but I seriously doubt it is complicated provided you create a proper software-design.
