I personaly believe that relidgion is becoming thinner and thinner.
The amount of people with no relidgion is becoming higher each year...
I think this is mainly because of science and it's uncanny ability to explain nearly everything.

Answer from someone who didn't do the required reading.

The question of religion is a complex one with many facts to consider. Did you know that the majority of religions in this world believe in some kind of deity? It's true. That, by itself, I think says a lot about the topic at hand.

Looking at religion purely as a hypothetical, let's say that religion is like a big cake. Cakes have many layers to them sometimes, and sometimes they don't have more than just the one. Religions of the world are much the same because some are very complex (like a multi-layered cake) and others are more simple. The question of which is the one true religion and which isn't is the real issue.

It's like in the book Jurrassic Park written by Steven Spielburg. In it Ian Malcom is quoted as saying "God creates dinosaurs, God destroys dinosaurs, God creates Man, Man destroys God, Man creates Dinosaurs." And then Dr. Laura Dern responds with "Dinosaurs eat Man and Woman inherits the Earth." I think this represents a major dichotomy in our thinking these modern days because of how we're constantly finding replacements for God. But, maybe they're all just another religion?

Well, in britain at least, 40% of people do not believe in god, which is more than 5 years ago...i dont know the exact statistics, but religous belief is falling, in europe at least.

If there is a deity and whatnot, then I wouldn't think that any ONE religion has the whole truth. Perhaps each one has varying slices of the truth, some more than others, and what overlaps is viewed through the lens of the culture from which that particular culture sprang from. There's also the possibility that they're all bunk, but I won't be convinced either way until I'm dead. If I'm still aware, then that says something.
