The latest version of Red Orchestra 3.3 is out if you are a FilePlanet member. If not - you get to wait until tomorrow. Here's the newness:

A unique player momentum system, giving an ever-more lifelike feel to movement within the game. The player doesn't just stop and start instantly, but takes a moment to get moving, or to stop.

An item that has long been on the request list: different speeds depending on the direction of movement. The player now slows when strafing or moving backwards, for added realism.

Improved AI for the bots operating vehicles: the driver will stop and go when ordered - and you can order the bots out of the vehicle if you want it all to yourself!

One beautiful new map, never seen before: Baksan Valley - go try it out!

With full access to the UT engine, we have been able to throw in some major rendering optimizations. This is showing an improvement of up to 40% in frame-rates on lower-end CPUs. Additionally, a number of the maps have been further optimized for improved performance.

Vehicle movement has been improved: the brakes on tanks now hold the tank from rolling down shallow hills - and they won't "spin" so easily!

The full change log spills all of the details.

RO baffles me. They try to be realistic, yet the people in it carry there guns on there hips. What kind of solider carrys a gun on there hip? Hip carrying is only in movies where people go rambo.
And the name... The red orchestra was the russian spy network durring WW2. That implys theres going to be spying and such, there isnt.

    Brizz didn't say it was.

If Fileplanet have the file a day before any other file mirrors, that's still an exclusive.

Exclusives means get it before any one, even if its an hour before its still an exclusive. I also do not play it as i dont like the mod. Its no match for strike force and frag ops in my view but its still a dam good looking mod.:)

What do you mean? All games have the characters holding the guns at the hips, even CS. And RO is one of the few games where you must use iron sights to get the most kills.

btw, this is awesome news. /me downloads

What person in there right mind would fire a gun on there hip? In CS only some guns are held on the hip, like the AK47, most are held against the shoulder.
You play airsoft, right? Have you ever once seriously skimished while holding your gun on your hip? The awnser is probably no, you firing it against your shoulder. Then you have the fact that these are suposed to be trained soldiers! There is no properly trained soldier that fires his gun on his hip. (At least the "Trained" soldiers in RO have a decent 'run/sprint' time)

    Edited: replaced 'Carry' with 'fire'

edit: I'm all for adding a shouldered mode for weapons in RO, but dont say its impossible to use a weapon at the hip.

    5 seconds of google searching.

I never said it was impossable. See movies: Die Hard and other 'rambo' style movies... but those are movies. Not real combat situations.
The only way I can see someone ever firing from the hip if they are moving from location to location and are unaware that there are about to be attacked. They would maybe take some hip shots as a reflex, then run to cover and switch the weapon over to there shoulder. Which is what it looks like in 2 of the pictures you posted, but there not even firing at anyone. The last one, I dont know wtf that guy is doing.

The MP40 was designed to be fired from the hip under certain circumstances. That is why it had a folding metal stock. When the stock was folded up, you fired it from the hip.

That doesnt mean that it should be fired from the hip all the time.
Anyway, thats not my point. My point is there is a chance, maybe .01% of the time that an auctual properly trained soldier would fire from the hip in an auctual combat situation, except an urban combat situation, which the chance of this happening would increase to .1%. So why do so many games have hip firing all the time? Especially the games that try so hard to be realistic, such as RO. It makes no sense at all.
Maybe you can have it so when you sprint, it puts the weapon on the hip, where it can be fired. Then when the player slows down he automaticly puts the gun back up to his shoulder when he stops firing.

Unless you are 2 feet from somebody, it does take alot of spraying and praying to hit somebody from the hip. I always try and use my iron sights when I expect enemy's to show up. The only thing I spray and pray with most of the time are the mg's. That can be somewhat effective at short to medium.

I can understand MG's being fired from the hip, since there quite heavy and most of the time they have tracer rounds, so you can see the path of the bullet. I would also assume its a bit easier to control recoil when aiming from the hip, since the gun is resing against more... 'mass', since it has to push more back the actual gun wont move as much, or something to that effect.

anyway, do you know when people actually do fire weapons from the hip in RO?

in close quarters when they stumble on and enemy or enter a room full of hostiles. Otherwise it is all iron sight'd.

You never see people in RO sitting on the top of a hill standing firing rifle round off form the hip and landing bullets on anything over than sky.

I'm leaving tomorrow for my pilot's licence training for 2 weeks, so I consider this argument won by me and the RO droogies.
