Hi, maybe someone followed a duscussion on the suggestion forum. about a low ready position instead of the hipped position.
    http://forums.beyondunreal.com/showthread.php?t=134872&page=1

For those who don´t know what "low ready" is:
You have the weapon shouldered, but facing down.

I personally think INF is perfect as it is, I only dislike hip shooting. I don´t want to call hip shooting unrealistic, but it is not commonly used by professionals or good trained soldiers.
While in low ready you are able to lift the weapon and aim faster that from hip (thats why professionals do that).

The advantage would be, that you could run in low ready without to spend as many stamina as while aiming the weapon the whole time. And if you see an enemy you could aim the weapon faster than from the hip (ok, depends on the wight).

It may be a problem to make an low ready 1st and 3rd person animation, but that´s the single thing that should be changed (and coding, like faster aim and so on).

I can imagine, that many INFlers are hipshooters, but this mutator should be a "real shooter mutator" ;)

So if anybody would like to make this mutator, that would be great ;)

P.S. the sniper use should be as it is (no low ready), but pistols, assaultrifles and maybe rifles with acog should have the low ready.
I personally would like have the weapon dimension on most rifles little bit bigger, so aiming with ironsight would be more comfortable and realistic.

Can you pretend INF hip mode = Low ready mode? Going from Hip to Aim is pretty fast in INF, in my opinion. So you can "pretend" that firing from the Hip is actually snapshooting, while aiming is equivalent to shouldered. While I would love an animation that shows weapons shouldered but aimed down for movement, I think it would require the complete re-animation of every weapon & item in INF for nothing more than eye candy.

    But...
Shooting shouldered IRL is easier than shooting hipped in-game (regarding chance of first shot hit) while shooting hipped IRL is a bit harder than shooting hipped in-game. I think changing the freeaim zone to become much smaller when shouldered and even smaller when aiming, while being a bit bigger while hipped would help this. Also seeing the line of the rifle's barrel should help u see where it's aimed.
Also shooting with weapon shouldered while running forward IRL is much easier than the in-game hipped and aimed modes.

I like the idea of a low ready mode. The way phsycomorph has in mind IMO is sound and balanced while maintaining realism. All it would really require is modified INF guy animations. It can't be any worse than making an entirely new weapon, since the INF guy is skeletal animation.

    Uhh... Uhhhhhhhhh...

Assuming that you want to modify the third person mesh... Good luck with that...

(Models can be developed independently of the actual player mesh)

The biggest thing that would add to gameplay would be to make scoped weapons less awkward. With a shouldered view, sniper rifles and acogs could be used without having to look through the scope. This would be a big change to gameplay, one for the better I think.

If I was going to make the mutator, I wouldn't change the 3rd person animations at all. I would simply add a 3rd view by using the normal "aimed-fire" animation and simply offsetting it to show the person not looking directly down the sights, but a bit over them instead.

I don't know much about this, but I don't see a need for ANY new animations.

You will need new animations if you want it to be in 3rd person. Otherwise it will be kinda cheesy. I would imagine that sprinting/jogging with the weapon by your hip would be very uncomfortable. That has always bugged me :\

Well of course, but that is just eye candy. To make the mutator work gameplay-wise, there don't need to be any new 3rd person animations, and 1st person could still look just fine. Especially since the bone files or whatever can't be retrieved for the INF player model, so it isn't possible to add new animations.
