The Wrestler - 9.5/10, I'm not a big fan of wrestling but this movie was really interesting. Mickey Rourke did a wonderful job portraying an old wrestling star.

I'd quite like to believe all of these recommendations and go and see this but I have been permanently scarred by the experience of paying good money to go and see Barfly. More that two decades later, the memory of another of Mr. Rourke's great acting triumphs still causes a nervous reaction.

I remember seeing this in the theater with a friend when it came out and liking it a lot.

Watching it today, eh...time has not done it any favors, and it's only a decade old. Specifically, a lot of the characters are awful. The token black guy in space is pretty excruciating to watch. What is it with the string of bad black characters in 90s sci-fi movies? Chris Tucker almost ruined an awesome film like Fifth Element.

I still really like the first half of it, but it gets kind of weak towards the end.

Live Free or Die Hard - 2/10

2 for the effects. Rest of the movie is cheesy as f*ck.

[edit] Sorry. It has to now be a 5/10. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is really hot.

Add a point or 2 more if you watched the unrated version. Its more akin to previous die hards than the butchered pg-13

    Taken - 8.5/10

I liked this movie, alot. It had a nice story behind it, and plot to the movie, and decent fight scenes.

One thing that did make me not give it a 9 or a 9.5 is...

Come on... If it's a movie about illegal trafficing in women prostitution, why don't you show atleast one set of tits?

Straight Shooter 3/10 (was on tv yesterday)
Hollywoodesque action movie made in Germany...
Heino Ferch was underused. He could have done more than say almost nothing and wear black shades. He is kind of like a German "Bruce Willis lite" but with a bit of stop-motion magic they could have replaced him with a cardboard cutout of himself in this movie. Katja Flint was bland too, even though she is technically a good actress.
The only cool character that was acted well was the boss of the SEK who was basically constantly raging about one thing or anothern :). Speaking of which, the SEK looked like GSG9, if Counterstrike is somewhat accurate with its playermodels. At least they didn't look or behave like a SEK.

Unfortunately the movie just enforces the point that there are no German action movies unless you count bad catastrophe flicks.

*trails off to imdb to check if there might be a German action movie worth mentioning*

They should have stuck with pen and paper

    Dungeons and Dragons: 2/10

A sequence of not too badly staged set pieces with (for the time) decent CGI, strung together by the most godawful script, characterisation and acting.

Even my immensely non-discerning kids were troubled by the dialogue and characters.

Entertaining, well acted, but a bit anti-climatic at the end.

The day the earth stood still (for 1 min) 3/10

The only reason it got 3 was because it had decent special effects. The acting was horrible, I wanted that little kid to die slow and painfull but without a mouth (he's the obligatory black person in the flick appaerntly)

The script writing was probably one of the worst I've seen. They did everything wrong with this movie. I've never read the books, never saw the original, and this movie by itself was a stinkfest of poopy caca. I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone except for to say that you've seen it and agree that it's ****.
