Question about skins in Unreal 1?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

In your computer, duh.
Sometimes when a company releases a game it uses alot of the same resources as the one before it and some of those can be converted from one game to the other. Take for instance some Fallout 3 mods can be relitively easy to convert into a Fallout New Vegas mod. Now can the same be said about Unreal 1 and Unreal Tournament? Can you convert a Unreal Tournament player model over to the original Unreal or am I stuck with a bunch of crappy skins of Boba Fett?

It isn't too hard to convert UT models to Unreal. Gizzy already converted a few. You can get them at Hyper.nl's site (go to mods and game types, and then search for Boss).

Oh god, download those piles of crap at your own risk.
I used really lame methods for exporting those models, something I've always looked back on and thought "wtf were you thinking Dan, really?"

I can export any model from UT to use in Unreal 1 if you want, just PM me a link to it or post it here :p

EDIT: OH GOD, suddenly feeling motivated to work on UT2004Weapons again...

What I'm trying for is to use the Unreal Tournament player model Warhammer 40k Space Marine in Unreal 1. You'd think with as popular as it was as a clan skin that there'd be at least one port floating around but finding any good Unreal 1 skins is like search for the Arc of the Covenant. Just with less Nazis and no Sean Connery.

(EDIT) But since something happened to Fileworks I guess the only place to go is here.

Thanks for the link, I'll have a look at it. I've never seen this model before so I'll certainly be using it in Unreal quite a bit :p

I think most of the basic UT technology is compatible with Unreal 1 as it is based on the U1 engine. Coding was broken between 220 and 224 so basic coding was changed between those versions, but the 224+ code to UT should be similar. I tend to think the code broke due to the UT development process. EPIC added skeletons in the latter patches and the later bonus paks included new models using skeletons. Don't know if they will be compatible with the original Unreal unless the 227 patch does something.

I was working on converting one of the UT maps to Unreal...Phobos and I could export the map down to Unreal and fit in the textures.

Quite a few mods made with 220 have been updated so that they run on versions 224+ of the game. Same with some UT mods, they have been mofified to work on 224/225/226/227.

SkeletalChars.u works in 227, with some slight modifications.

The actual BotPack.u file from UT has been converted too, (Nothing to do with 227) so you can actually load all of UT's maps into Unreal. Mods don't quite load in it though, a seperate party is working on an OldSkool conversion for Unreal 1
