Is it okay to use a different brand oil every change?

I want to use Valvoline or Kendall but all the oil change places down here use Quaker state or Penzoil. and it seems every time they want to change the brand and type of oil they use.

I can change my own oil, but i wanted to be lazy.
If i have to do it myself to keep to the same brand of oil, i will.

I've always been of the opinion that keeping to the same brand is better than switching. I can't back this up with any research or other facts though. I do recommend, however, that you do NOT USE PENZOIL! That stuff is sludge in a bottle. Valvoline or Kendall are VERY good choices and I would recommend just doing your own oil changes just for that and also to avoid possible bone-head mistakes by the doofs at the oil change place. These people are not highly skilled.

I don’t think it really matters much. the main thing is to have clean oil. I suggest that you start the vehicle and let it warm up just a little and then change the oil. That way, you’ll have oil (even if it’s old oil) around the moving parts. That’s important because when you change the oil, it takes a few seconds for the filter to fill up and for you to get oil pressure. If you were to change the oil in the morning, for example, before you had started it recently, the oil will have had more time to drip off the moving parts. That means you have less oil around the parts while you’re waiting for the pressure to catch.

Also, warming up the oil helps it drain better. And, I try to fill the oil filter with as much oil as possible (sometimes you can’t put much in if the filter screws on sideways) so it takes less time for the pressure to catch. That’s your biggest enemy; waiting for oil pressure. If you have a turbo, you “definitely” want to fill the oil filter with oil.

I use NAPA brand oil, it`s a relabeled Valvoline. If you call the 800 # on the back of the bottle, Valvoline answers the phone. If you have a quick lube place install your own oil, be damn sure to be standing right over the top of them as they put it in, you would be surprised how many just fill with the bulk crap and throw your good oil in their tool box to use on they`re own stuff later.

Yea, after looking at some umpteen hundred more oil change places, the only oils they use are penzoil, and quaker state.

Guess ill just deal with it and do my own oil.
And i asked several places on if i wanted to use my own filter, they said sure, but i would still be charged the same rate. wtf!?:umno:

Oil is a myth. You really only have to change it every 10,000 miles or never. Whichever comes first.
