Here's a basic post I've created in the hopes that we will get a maps section and that someone will be willing to host the maps that I have.

XMP-APv2-RGB

Basics

Number of starting deploy points: 2/2

Total number of deploy points: 4 (0 hackable)

Number of starting generators: 0/0

Total number of generators: 3 (3 hackable)

Number of starting artifacts: 2/2

Total number of artifacts: 4

Total number of artifact nodes: 1/1/0

Map Specs

Indoors or outdoors: Indoors

Size: Small

Low/normal/high gravity: Low

Vehicles

Raptors: 0

Harbringers: 0

Juggernauts: 0

Others: 0

Download the map here.

Special thanks to (enter name of person hosting maps here) for hosting the downloads for these maps.

SUGGESTIONS ARE ENCOURAGED!

Once again... Great idea man. Something like this would be a good way for people to find and check out maps. Also would keep the forum USEFUL, as apposed to our more typical spammage.
Edit: Maybe a quick sentence or so describing the map could be good

Hows "A small map with supply stations in the middle and low gravity, good for point whoring, learning to walljump, and all out fighting."

take "others" out from under vehicles, and don't double space the lines. That is way too long for just one map. I would get tired of reading it after just the first 2 maps. Simple and to the point is better IMO.

Or~ Under vehicles you could put "none". Just for the maps without any vehicles.

Another idea is for someone to make a torrent of ALL of the map packs and maps, make a torrent of it, send it out to everyone who already has all of the maps unchanged and working. Then when someone comes along, we can all host the torrent and then the person can download all the maps at once. I know that I would be willing to stick with this for a very long time.

Something else that just popped in my head. Make a animated .gif of all the maps. This would show off the maps in a rather small image size easy to view and to get an idea of what the maps are.

Of course, I don't completely understand this. If they want to play with us, they will have to get the maps anyways, stats or no stats. Wethere they want the map or not, it will come with the pack.

I was going to do one post/map (which is a lot of posts) so the .gif idea probably isn't going to happen. Also, there are maps out there that use edited vehicles such as the raptinger and the gbharbi, which is why I have the "others" section.

I just haxed myself a FTP, so I will be compressing and uploading maps over the next little while. Should I compress the maps as .uz2, .zip, or .rar?

I would denote whether the map is actual XMP or some bastardization of the game (aka ADR/Box/etc). Especially given the current "rotation" I've been seeing going around some server.

Why do it with forums? Why not make a wiki, that everyone can change and keep up to date, put comments, add screenshots/gifs etc? I'd be happy to host it and provide the upload space, if someone is willing to give me a hand with the admin overhead.

For those who don't know what a wiki is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki

This is actually a great idea. If we could do a good up to date wiki, and have a link stickyed here, it would be great. Something that we can all update as we see fit.

I'm not too familiar with wiki so all I could do is hook you up with the maps and screenshots, you would have to keep it up to date.

The nice thing about a wiki is that once it's running it more or less keeps itself up to date.

Think of a book or website where anyone can both add pages and edit existing pages. The beauty of it is that it has very little administrative overhead: with a forum you'd either want to make everyone mod to achieve the same thing, or the original poster would have to keep updating his/her post. With a wiki, if someone sees an omission, wants to make a comment, or insert screenshots or mirrors, they can without any intervention at all by admin/mod.

It also has the potential to be extended to support other things, like mapping information topics, or general-purpose "how-to"s.

If you have a repository of maps/screenshots already, it could all be neatly indexed etc. as a starting point. I did a similar site back in my Quake 2 days, called EarthQuake2 ~ which gave rise to my nick :D Would be great to do something similar for XMP.

The other alternative is I could code something from scratch in PHP (maybe as a nuke module), but that would take longer.

Well, I just uploaded 200ish maps to an ftp and I will begin to work on posts soon, or I can send you a link to the ftp and you can create a U2XMP maps Wiki. It's all up to you.

Since I don't like to edit my posts, I'll double post.

Should I put in a "turrets" section and if yes should I say the number of turrets or just weather or not the map has turrets.

I don't think mentioning turrets is particularly relevant beforehand, since if you don't know the map and don't know where they are, it would be difficult to see how this information is useful.

Stuff like gravity ought to be classified under a section called "other notes/features" or similar, since I don't know any maps with high gravity, only a few with low, and mentioning it for ordinary maps seems pointless. Would also allow you to use the space for other comments about maps which are distinctive in some way.

Also, could "author", and possibly "map pack" (so that people who see a map can decide if they want to download the whole map pack instead) be included?

You could save space on the vehicles by writing it like so, similar to how you've done deploys:

Vehicles (Rap/Jug/Harb): 2/2/0

What you think?
