I'm just curious about people who still play UT 2003 and why they still like it, cause there's still some who play it. In other words what makes it different than just playing UT2004? Is it the competitve sport like style, more agility like boost dodging? Are the weapons any better or worse than UT 2004? I no longer have a copy of the game of I'm only asking those who still play it what they think of it...

The weapon balance is different, the movement is different, there is fast weapon switching....

The gameplay is a lot more quirky and entertaining. UT2004 is way more serious and some of the gameplay changes were really flawed when it came to things like shock tape (something that is next to impossible to avoid in UT2004 but slightly easier to avoid in UT2003) and other hitscan issues.

Also, the AI is pretty different, for example, bots do a taunt anim when they win, they use the Translocator to telefrag people, they use the Shield Gun when faced against an invisible enemy, they shout "Medic!" or "Nice!" in the field (not through the radio), they use the Shield Gun in close quarters.
Also, the effects are pretty different. The item respawn effect is a lot more pronounced, nearly all sounds are different (the translocator teleport sound for one is a lot less annoying than in UT2004), the looks of some weapons are different as well (like the translocator). I managed to port all these to UT2004 with my UT2003 Style mutator pack, though.

I even prefer UT2003 beta, the gameplay is even better in there. Totally different scale, species difference kinks, etc, etc.

UT2k3 was so much better than UT2k4, and had the best menu of all the Unreal games in my opinion.

The weapons were different and the AI used the shield gun when they'd get up close. They'd actually do taunt animations, too.

One thing that comes to mind was in the singleplayer. If the enemy team challenged you for a teammate and you lost, your teammate would actually be on the enemy team, unlike in ut2004 where you can just hire your teammate again after you've lost.

IMO, ut2003's singleplayer was way better that ut2004's, and personally, I liked ut2003 a lot more overall.

+1 for the UT2003 menu.

I still play UT2003 often, although I must admit it isn't installed right now. Gameplay is noticeably different to UT2004, but I like both games. UT2003 seems a bit more fatiguing to play - I have to be in the right mindset or I get raped online.

That said, I got better at UT2003 than I'v ever managed to get at UT2004, so I ended up playing it more often online.

What is this "shock tape" that everyone speaks of? o_0

You weren't supposed to send back the UT2003 game itself for that rebate, only a proof that you bought it.

Yeah, the front cover of the manual with the CD key, I know...

Just try to reinstall the game without the key and "whoops" you can't. Might as well send the disks back as well since you can't use them again...

Actually it was the back cover with the proof of purchase. Also, you could have copied the key before you sent the page back... :p

I'd rather see UT99 released for free or a UT99 Live. I had no idea there was this much love for UT 2003. I remember reading hundreds of posts from angry UT enthusiasts about it when it was released.

I guess that's mostly because those guys talking back there were mainly both casual and they came from UT1 scene. Here only those who do like UT2 games are having a word.
