Playing Online (and the joys of custom maps and camo)

It's pretty much impossible to autodownload any of this over 56k, and I don't know what I need to get to play nor where to get it. Help.

Koohii o nomimasu ka?
GD mutie pack (look for Odie's sig)... most of the camos and muties are in there.

actually here's the link the the mutie pack (camos and other mutators)

http://ghostdogs.net/GDPack/GDMutiePackv12.zip

This should at least represent what's on the GD eas server.

Then you need the maps. You'll have less chance to find a custom map on EAS... but if you go on DTAS or TDM servers, you'll be downloading all night.

Good luck!

Wow, you've been haunting the forums so long, I'd thought you would have already been online. My suggestion is to hit the website of whatever clan server you're playing on. If you play in North America, there's the GD Mutator & Stuff pack. I think the link is in Odie3's sig. If you play TDM in Germany, you can go click there. Also, there's always Combatmaps.de for most maps and maybe some other files. Good luck, hope you choose wisely.

No no no, better to kill oneself than to play there. Go for GD EAS or nothing.

Oh and it helps to run through the EAS maps a couple times on Attacker and Defender before going online. Make sure you know the locations of these things: objectives, attacker and defender spawns, sniper actors.

I actually had played online once before. I think I ran across geogob, got killed more than should have been technically possible, and uninstalled because I needed hard drive space desperately. Thanks for the help. Was able to get onto one server briefly, though that got cut short pretty quickly thanks to custom maps. I'll have to figure that out at some point. Until then, more bot match?

Yeah, those 10 minutes last night were really fun.

This is going to be a while.

Arethusa do what I do. I connect not at 56K but at 26.4K which makes things a pain. Got myself a download manager. I make a point to find out what is running on each server and dowload them ahead of time and install.

At the moment I have directories full of maps, mutators. I had to do this for a long time if I wanted to play on the severs.

Now I will have to admit that for the last year things have been much easier since we got highspeed at work. Still on slow dialup at home though.

If I was able to keep up and have fun then you certainly can.

Combat maps, Real Maps should get you started. Post what you cannot find and someone will link you.

Hm. I guess I could grab maps at school. Where can I find an up to date list of what's being run and where?

EAS is great if you get the right people together, which happens from time to time. DTAS is also a lot of fun, but it becomes TDM with the wrong group of people. TDM is one of those modes, you just jump in an play because it is familiar and it can be played with fewer people. Not as much teamwork (mostly none) tho.

All of the gamemodes have their pros and cons. Try them all and play whatever you like the best.

I run all of the GD muties on my servers, but like someone mentioned, I do include a lot of custom maps in the rotation. You can check out the rotation at combatmaps.de in their server browser and then DL the maps from there or from realmaps.beyondunreal.com.
