I really would like to have this in infiltration. When someone dies, the body should stay in the level as long as the round lasts. This way you can also see if one of your teammates has been killed and where the attackers might have an ambush waiting for you. The weaponpickup is also much more realistic when you take somebodies weapon of a corpse instead of the ground.

... except for the poor bastards who don't have 128+Mb RAM, 600+ PIII/Athlon and a kickass GFX card. Have you any idea how many polys this could bring into one single room in the game?

No Devon, didn't thought of polys. You sure have a good point there, I knew there was a reason why I haven't seen that in infiltration yet. Maybe there is a way in between, I really hope so 'cause it would make everything so much more real.

How much polys is a regular UT model BTW ?

The solution to this is easy!

When someone dies, have their body fade away - BUT - As the body fades away, replace it with a generic, low-poly model in the same pose and position. The body is there, but the polys are not. IMG SRC=/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif BRRiot Gear

I don't like the low-poly model idea, besides, I think it would look cheap, if leaving the actual models down wouldn't work, how about letting the bodies fade away, but have something like dog tags left behind.

It would be good if people on their last life, their corpses would remain. But when they have more, they dissappear like normal. That way you dont get piles of bodies lying around, and, being as most servers only let in 16 ppl, that unless everyone drops and dies in the same spot, the polys wouldnt make that much of a difference. I mean, they were there, so why not keep 'em?

I like MiscMans idea most :) It makes a lot of sense - since your body should only be able to be at one place at a time, it'd disappear everytime you respawn /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Btw, if I remember right the UT models are around 500-600 polys...

Cool Beppo. I suggested this way back when, and it would definately add to the realism.

It would be worth it to at least test it out and determine it's impact on the game.

I'm with Andirez, let the models stay where the have been killed.
That would make the game much more realistic, or why not make it an option in the settings when or if the models shall fade away.

Has anyone here actually played online on the INF servers?! Make the bodies lay there and not disapear, like Andirez suggested. With the amount of heavy weapons fire and explosives flying around, the bodies would become bark mulch in no time flat! The polycount would be fine. Just leave the gibs to disapear after awhile like they do normally.

Another thing that might be possible if poly counts were a factor. When a body leaves, Just leave a chalk outline or something to that effect. Unlike dog tags or something like that, You could still see how they fell and get an idea where the death blow came from.

Well, obviously dog tags are a necessity. You should be able to take dog tags off of any body and read who the player is/was.

Nah, polys shouldnt be a prob. I mean, they were there before anyway. You could do it so when you move the mouse over their body, their name appears just like normal. I mean, who would go up to a body just to see who it is?

but still let's say if 30 people (hey, it could happen, right?) die in a room with a lotta objects, th e poly count could seriously mess up your day...

Any of you guys ever tried the DecalStay mod? It works well with Inf and allows the bullet holes and blood spatters to stick around till the map changes. Pretty cool. It does not affect the bodies, however.

We have it on our files page.
