Overclocking

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

A quick message (in the style of Elmer Fudd) to anyone who's thinking of overclocking their PC:

"Be vevvy vevvy careful!"

My celly 400 is now going at 450mhz. Yeah, I tried to jack it up to 500, but Windows died on me so I had to re-install it and nearly lost the contents of my HD (don't ask how). In theory I could clock this PC to 600mhz but, as said in JFK, "theory says that an elephant can hang off a cliff with its tail tied to a daisy chain". In other words, no way.

One thing tho'. Both UT and Q3 run brilliantly now for some reason. I mean 50mhz isn't an earth-shattering increase, but everything's just, umm, smoooth now /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

I have a P3 500. I ran it for a month OC'd at 600. It ran fine. Temp seemed ok. I just chickened out. I am going to upgrade after the first of the year. So I think I will go ahead and crank her up again.

what do u mean chickened out? when you overlock it either works, doesnt work, or it crashes every 15 minutes. if it was fine for a month, it would be fine for 5 years. your cpu wont just melt one day or anything. the lifespan of a cpu is maybe, 10 years and by overclocking you reduce it to 5 years. u gonna be using that p3-500 in 5 years? dont think so. heh

At the time a friend of mine said "Hey dude Overclocking is cool but every day you OC you shorten your CPU'S life.
' So I quit. So I guess it's ok huh?

What are you upgrading to Sky? I'm in the early planning stages of an upgrade myself.

I wanna get some RAM first, then maybe a nice ELSA Erazor X or Creative Annihilator DDR.

When my celly's on it's last legs, I'll try to get a new CPU. Sod knows what speed they'll be by then /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

Hmmm. I am open for suggestions LS /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif
I have mixed feelings about the Intel 820 chipset. (Heard that 4X AGP and the Ramdac aren't all that Intel hoped) So I kinda feel like going the Athelon Route. The benches look good and Boards I hear are coming down in price. What do you think I should do. I have had Intel in the past. I had one AMDK 6 system one time and I wasn't to happy with it.
